Saw that Renee and Lauren came in 19th and 25th in 18:53 and 19:25 for 5k at the NJ state champs. Think that these are definitely mid distance and not X?C recruits

Noticed a new track recruit Dan Leyh, who I gather by his times is an 800/1500 runner. His PR's are mid level, not elite 4:19i/1:57.8outdoor jr, but he seems to show steady improvement. Not sure he could help mens track as a freshman, but he might be able to down the road. www.dyestat.com has a list of curent recruits by college/state

Good find, reformation. I regularly monitor dyestat.com, but you beat me to it. Let's hope we have a Bumbi or Lukezic on the list for this year too.

The men are losing their only elite 400/800m guys after this yr-they will have to bring in several elite recruits if they plan to remain competitive outside of XC and long distance and as an overall team-as of now there is noobody identified to fill the void. Hopefully they will have a big spring signing class.

On a somewhat related note, they've just reopened the half of Yates that was under renovation, and it looks (at least to my untrained eye) like a big score for the track team. They re-sized the track to 200m, and resurfaced it... I'm not sure if its a college-varsity-level surface, but it's a helluva lot nicer than the polyurethane type floor that they had before.
Not only that, but there's a sprinting straightaway along the north wall, and a jumping pit on the south side, sand and all.
There's still a long way to go, but between the temporary Ellington solution and these new improvements at Yates, it strikes me that facilities (while far from ideal) are not going to be as much of a hindrance to track recruiting as they have been for the last 5-10 years.

Good to hear, THB. It seems as if they are recruiting a few more people in the shorter events, which is good for the overall program. And reformation is right, we are going to be depleted in the 400/800 realm. The women are ok in that regards, but the men are suffering in the middle distances right now. Tommy Manning, our true 800/1500 guy, will have completed his eligibility this weekend.

As far as the depleteion of mid distance guys I Wonder if Chris Bonner will redshirt the spring season, given the Bonner's seeming breakthrough in the 800(he might want a yr to see what he could do focusing on that distance) and that without Manning there's really only a small chance to score high in the 4X8 or dmr's outdoors anyway(unless Bumby does run outdoors and starts posting lukezic type times).

Good point, reformation. This is some chatter on the running talk boards about his breakthrough in the 800m and some are wondering if that will be his race of the future. His 1:49 gave him a place on the descending lists nationwise, but not high enough to make the NCAAs. We have a few, who have potential in the 800m, but have not realized that promise yet - Lagrenade, Grosscup (who actually has not been heard from in a while), and, of course, Bumbi, who probably shows more promise in the longer distances, but would probably run a sub-1:50 in a year or two.

Btw, I saw that M. Infeld's sister came in 2nd at the Nike Natl meet in the 800m as a soph. Hopefully the older sibling is having a good experience at GU and the younger sister will come here too.

I like his resume. I particularly liked the quote: "I went to the campus and I was just blown away," Bean said after scoring 30 points as Somers won the Class B title Sunday. He should help both with middle distance fortunes and with XC.

The new recruits should be listed pretty soon. I wonder if we have a chance at John Maloy, who sounds as if he is Elizabeth's brother (both have red hair and both are from NY). He finished just behind Bean in the NY State 1000m:

Another recruit:Owen Boyle of NJ, looks like a decent XC /distance runner with some upside, a late bloomer. He hasn't posted elite times on the track yet, though he seems like he's poised for some bigger stuff now. Hoyas beat out some mid level programs like BC/providence to get him --still hoping we get some elite mid distance guys www.thecoaststar.com/weekly/2006/03.30.06/boyle.html

One more recruit: Daniel Gerber from Woodlands, TX, who runs the distance races.
