Not yet. There are a couple of early signees for other schools, like the Univ. of Oregon with five recruits already, but nothing for the Hoyas yet.

No GU recruits yet, but look at Duke's recruits so far: Duke : Osborne, James, Jesuit, FL -- distance; Sullivan, Ken, St. Ignatius, OH -- distance. Why are the Jesuit HS'ers going to a place like Duke.

Why are the Jesuit HS'ers going to a place like Duke. Scholarships. Track used to be a nonscholarship sport at Duke but now they've putting the commitments in to compete at a national level. Conversely, it's going to get even harder for GU to recruit top talent without a home track.

Excuse my ignorance, but is GU aiming to make Kehoe the track training facility?

I'm not sure that these Duke recruits are really elite. I think Gtwn still out recruits duke for the men, but unfortunately I think that they've passed us by in the women's recruiting--for both men + women we still seem to be able to produce the super elite runners than Duke. Stanford, Ark et.al. are the only other schools that I think really rival us in this regard for US athletes at least, not counting the foreign elites

Excuse my ignorance, but is GU aiming to make Kehoe the track training facility? What was formerly Kehoe was cut into two pieces a few years ago to carve out room for what is known as "North Kehoe Field" for soccer, field hockey, and women's lacrosse. There's about 55-60 yards left on the old field, but the track was removed years ago. There were some structural issues with the Astroturf surface and as a result I don't believe any teams are up there anymore. To complicate matters, the present footprint for North Kehoe (which was once proposed as a new 3,000 seat soccer/track facility) is now not big enough to fit a track.

This fall the Hoyas have (or will have) the use of the Duke Ellington track close by. It is an odd distance (i.e., not full 400m oval), but I guess it works in a pinch or saves some time from driving across the river. I have not heard whether it actually opened, but it was planned to be ready this fall.

issue w/ duke ellington is that some people feel that the shorter track may lead to more injuries.

That may be with an oval, which brings tighter turns. Probably should run all intervals in lanes 4-8. Anybody know what the actual configuration of this track is?

Renee had the 23rd best 800m run (8th fastest non-senior) of the HS'ers last year with a 2:09.5 and the 19th best mile time with a 4:50.79.

Renee looks like an elite, top 10 recruit. Was interesting looking at Duke's recruit was that there women are clearly top 5-10, but the men are not.

The only thing that I can find this season on Lauren is this XC time: 18:59 5k Gregory, Lauren 2006, Morris Knolls NJ 2 @ Section Group 4 NJ 11/5/2005 I will have to look at the HS times for 800/1500 in Track and Field News for last year.

Nevada, I saw that Renee had run 2:08 and 4:49 as a junior and finished 6th at the US champs in the 800--definitely elite --apparently she runs about 19 for 5k xc, good but not eliite
hopefully the second recruit has fast mid distance times as well, the 19:00 is ok but not spectacular

Nevada, did a quick google check and Lauren Gregory ran a 2:13 800m as a junior--which is ok, hopefully she'll be 2:10 or below as a senior--she's probably more of a mid distance specialist

Good find, track fan. I don't understand one part of the article: Of course, it still remains to be seen how well the Hoya track team workouts at Ellington will be welcomed into the midst of the rights-empowered neighborhood of Burleith. Despite being a property under the jurisdiction of the DC school system, local residents tend to regard the open acreage as their own communal back yard. Will the Hoyas have trouble using this track? After all they did underwrite the cost of resurfacing. Also, in the 1960 picture of the Ellington track, it looked like a full 440 yards. Now it is 320 m. Why wasn't it enlarged a bit to make a full 400m? Or is it like our MS facility, no space for a larger track?

Reformation, good work. Lauren seems to be a step behind Renee. The 2:13 is decent, and it leaves room for improvement.
