Julie Henner leaving, replaced by Monica Hargrove. Some had speculated before that Henner was leaving, in some way tied to Lukezic. Have no idea if that is true. My sense is that she was a very respected coach, and this is a real loss for the staff.

Bad news, especially for the middle distance runners. I hear that Julie was helping coach Alan Webb as well.

have to wonder if these changes will exacerbate the current recruiting difficulties. have lost two big name coaches in last two yrs-Valmon + Henner. Replacements may be good, i really don't know, but they are very junior

Also, if you count Gags, we have lost three excellent coaches in the last X number of years. Monica is inexperienced, but she is a Hoya. I guess we will have to wait and see what effect these changes make. Reformation, do you know where Julie is going? Is Pat staying?

I'd like to know the inside story on this....
To me it goes back to Lukezic leaving. It is not the right decision. It's not in the the athlete's best interest or the programs. What was J. Henner's role in this?
It's been mentioned in another thread that J. Henner would be considered for the Stanford job? I don't see the fit at all. I don't see her being a top caliber coach. I would not put her leaving the program on par with Gag going west or Valmon heading to Maryland.
We don't need "another" middle distance coach...Coach Helmer is one of the best, maybe this move allows him to focus on what he does best.
What about P. Henner? He's done a good job with cross country and the distance events, but if he were to follow his wife to wherever I would make a run at Dan Ireland, now the cross country coach at Yale, a former Hoya. There would be no dropoff with Dan.

Bardo Rodeo, how about John Gregorek at Brown? Although there was some discussion about his being considered for the head coaching position there.
I doubt if we will ever know the full story about this from official channels. Lukezic's leaving, I attribute, more to his 2nd place finish at the USA Championships, which gave him a potential spot on the WC team. The fact that he didn't have an A qualifier caused him to go over to Europe for the races that eventually gave him the mark. I think this put a financial burden on him (his parents, etc.). I may be totally wrong, but that is my thinking.
I don't know about Julie's leaving. I have heard mixed reviews, but I have no first hand experience about her coaching abilities.

Gregorek is a good coach. His wife was, Chris Mullen, was coaching at Brown as well, but I don't believe that she is right now. Would he come to GU?
My thought about Dan Ireland is, he's from Virginia, we ran for Coach Helmer in high school, coming back to the Hilltop would essentially be coming home.
I also believe that at Lukezic's age, the benefits of staying at GU outweighed the benefits of making the world team this year. If he stays healthy, he has at least 10 years of world class running ahead of him. Why not graduate and keep training at GU?

Bardo, those were my thoughts too about Lukezic. I thought he should stick out his senior year, finish high at the XC champs and then win his first NCAA 1500m championship. Why turn pro now other than the reasons I expressed above. Maybe those were overwhelming? Is he continuing at GU? Paid by his pro contract? I don't know who does the recruiting? Do you know, Bardo?

Don't all the coaches participate in the recruiting? I think that's the way it's setup.
I've been doing a little surfing on the subject of J. Henner's departure from the staff and after reading different posts on other boards I have one question.....
Was/is something "funny" going on?

I am afraid that I can't answer that question. I do know that the subject of her departure was mentioned on a couple of boards before it was announced officially.
