Whatever happened to the plan to construct a new outdoor track and soccer facility.
If we ever rebuild McDonough, would it be feasible to add a real indoor track.

That would be great, but the only thing on the table now is to renovate the Duke Ellington track. Has anybody seen this facility? I heard it was a strange distance.

I think the track/soccer facility is still on the books in Athletic Development, but the priorities of the various projects are pretty much as follows.
1. Boathouse 2. Ellington track renovation (as a short term solution) 3. Multi-sport facility 4 and 5. Convocation Center/Track-Soccer Complex
The major fundraising efforts going on right now seem to be the boathouse and the MSF...

I attended the night for Coach Gagliano back in November of 2001 and was under the impression that in addition to saluting the most successful coach in Georgetown History that evening was a kickoff fundraising event for the Gagliano Track.
I haven't heard one thing about that particular project since November 2001 and am actually turned off by the Duke Ellington Project.
The last few years have been a challenge for the coaching staff and athletes of the track program trying to find suitable places to practice...short term the Duke Ellington Track may solve the problem.
The lack of facilities have taken it's toll on the overall success of the program, Today the men finish fourth and the women finish fifth at the BE Championships and I believe only one point was scored in a field event, that's a far cry from the results that the Hoyas had even 5 years ago, where the men, though very strong on the track were able to score valuable points in the field.
IMHO the track and field program deserves better and in a perfect world when Coach Gag finishes up with the Farm Team, he comes back East and the school puts him in charge of raising the funds to build a facility that the track team deserves.

Good idea, Bardo. I have considered it an absolute shame that the university does not have a track. One of the few times I have been in DC in the last 25 years, my plane flew right over the track. I was able to stay on campus, and even went to an evening track meet. I remember the meet was setup (among other reasons) for one of the guys to get a qualifying mark in the 800m. So they had a couple of rabbits and were able to tow one of the runners to a 1:47.xx mark.
Bardo, you must have been on the track team, while you were there. What event do you run? What were your best times?

Nevada, I think the last time the Hoyas were allowed to host a meet like that was in 1996, those meets were great vehicles for, as you say, get guys a faster seed time for national meets, and that was also at the time when the Enclave was at its height, so there was quite a "stable" of rabbits for such purposes.
Shortly after 1996, the field over by the helipad, where the field events were thrown/practiced was taken for "intramurals" which disqualified the Hoyas from hosting meets (there is a minimum requirement of events that you must compete for it to be considered a meet).
So, not only was the track team not permitted to host meets, I know they had a couple of twlight meets and an invitational through the 90's, but some the throwing events had to be practiced off campus. I know that the hammer throwers had to commute to George Mason to practice.
The Hoyas had a great tradition of hammer throwers over the years with the great Kevin McMahon and Sean Flynn to name a couple, how can we recruit guys like that if we don't have a place to practice?
