For all the Hoya alumni in NY, the track team is running at the Armory in NYC this weekend, Feb. 13-14. There should be some good competition. I know people are talking about the race between freshmen Matt Debole of Georgetown and Bobby Curtis of Villanova in the mile, so it should be a good race. I will try to have results as they come in.

Friday night results from the Armory meet are as follows:
200m (women): 19. Kandance Ferguson 25.90 20. Nichole Torpey 25.96 23. Cinya Burton 26.34 All three are freshmen, so they are getting good experience this year.
400m (women) 4. Monica Hargrove 54.27 17. Jayne Penn 57.67 Monica made the finals, which are yet to be run. Her time is also an NCAA provisional qualifer for the indoor meet. Jayne is another freshman.
Distance Medley Relay (women) 3. Georgetown 11:41.03 Villanova and Duke (yikes) beat the Hoyas, but it was obvious the Hoyas were not running the same team that did 11:07 last week and got an automatic qualifier in beating Notre Dame. They were five seconds faster than Villanova last week.
1000m 2. Nana Hanson-Hall 2:55.33. Another freshman!
400m (men) 7. Chris Bonner 48.35 10. James Graham 48.51 15. Kevin Ward 50.15 Chris was 4th in his heat, but made the final. James, while being 3rd in his heat, was the first man to miss the final. Kevin Ward is a freshman and from hometown of Manhasset, LI. Go Kevin.
1000m 10. Neil Grosscup 2:31.48 12. Raheed Thompson 2:32.37 Both are freshmen.
In the open 800m, Ali Najjar, who is redshirting the indoor season, was first in his heat and had the 6th fastest time overall in 1:52.12.

More results from the Armory meet with just a few events to go. Some good performances from the Hoyas.
Monica Hargrove improved on her qualifying time of 54.27 to run a 54.13 for 7th in the final. That is a provisional mark for the NCAAs. Chris Bonner, on the men side of the 400m, finished 8th in 50.59. He was in the crowded heat of the final (5 men, while the other had only 3; so I don't know why they didn't go with a 4,4 arrangement; 9 made the final, because there was a tie for 8th place in the qualifiers).
We got points in the pole vault on both the men's and women's sides with Leilani Green finishing 8th with a mark of 3.45m or 11'3.75", while Andrew Haskell finished 7th with a 4.65m or 15'3" mark.
In the open 800 meter, alumnae Miesha Marzell-Arnold and Katrina deBoer, finished 5th and 7th respectively in times of 2:06.42 and 2:11.17.
Our true strength showed up in the 3000m. For the women Amanda Pape finished 3rd in 9:32.25,which is a provisional mark for the NCAAs. Erin Henry was 10th in 10:36.82. On the men's side Rod Koborsi was 2nd in 8:02.25, just 0.42 s behind Villanova's senior Tom Parlapiano, who is one of the best collegiate milers in the east. Rod is more a distance runner, so to stay with the miler in this shorter race was a good performance. It was also an NCAA provisional mark. Fleet Hower finished 7th with an 8:15.4 and freshman Brian Dalpiaz finished 8th with a 8:18.00 time. Pat Lenaghan finished 14th in 8:39.39.

To close out the meet:
In the men's 800m, Nat Glackin finished 14th in 1:53.74. On the women's side, Maura McCusker finshed 3rd in 2:09.58, just missing the NCAA provisional mark. Jill Laurendeau finished 9th in 2:12.57. Sabine Knothe finished 11th in 2:13.46 and Rose Wetzel finished 23rd in 2:15.60. Also, Whitney Schmucker, who was a freshman last year at Georgetown, but apparently got homesick for California, got 14th running for California in 2:13.78.
In the men's mile, Dan Tebbano finished 7th in 4:06.65, Matt Debole (freshman) finished 14th in 4:09.99, and Tommy Manning finished 14th in 4:13.53.
In the women's mile, Treniere Clement won the race with a 4:39.49, which is a provisional mark for the NCAAs, less than a second from the auto mark. Colleen Kelly finished 3rd in another provisional mark of 4:45.74, and Kim Malcolm finished 7th in 4:57.01. The women's 4x400m relay team finished 6th in 3:49.7.
To summarize, the men finished in 10th place, while the women finished 7th. Among the other teams were LSU, Texas, and South Carolina, perennial top finishing NCAA track and field teams. An especially strong finish by the women.

The PAC10 meet in Seattle had several Hoya alumni and one current student running over the weekend. For the women Tyrona Heath, running for the Farm Team, came in 9th in the 800m with a time of 2:08.58. In the men's 800m, Isidro Pimentel, also running for the Farm Team, came in 6th in 1:50.52, while Eric Savoth, Farm Team, came in 5th in the mile with a 4:01.38. The Farm Team, based at Stanford in Palo Alto, is coached by former GU head coach Frank Gagliano. The current student, Chris Lukezic, who is from the state of Washington, came in 8th in the 3000m in his homecoming, in a time of 8:00.98, which provisionally qualifies him for the NCAAs. Only two collegians beat him.

There is a good interview of sophomore Chris Lukezic in Runners' World. He is aiming for the Olympic trials this summer in the 1500m. www.runnersworld.com/home/0,1300,1-0-0-6185-1-0-,FF.html?site=RunnersWorld
