hifigator - I wonder what your opinion of Georgetown is after so many have told you to "shut up and go away"? I am not sure whether your question is asked in jest or not, but ironically it doesn't really matter. I, like most of you have probably been to quite a few message boards in my/your time. I enjoyed yours for a number of reasons. I liked the format and it is quite a bit faster than other boards I have been to. I like the set up for replying to specific quotes. Many boards have that kind of thing, but it is often either awkward or difficult to follow for a reader. I also enjoyed the balance between legitimate discussion as well as jovial sarcasm. As far as how I feel "now" ... nothing much has changed. I was not "run off" by naysayers at all. I was on vacation from April 15th through the 23rd and am just now checking messages. As far as my opinion of Georgetown/this board ... nothing much has changed here either. There are bad apples in every team, certainly some more than others (hint: see FSU) but in any case I am not going to "throw the baby out with the bath water" as the saying goes. I will simply keep serious discussions or in this case serious situations away from the fan based bantering. Apparently some can't do that.

I just got back from vacation, so I haven't visited the board in ten days. To those who gave prayer/good thoughts or concerns I thank you. To those who suggest the only reason I am here is because I don't have any "real" friends, you are sorely mistaken and you are the sad individuals. To those who complain that this is only a basketball board, I thought that was specifically why threads like this are put in this particular forum. Lastly, to those who are discussing Family Guy, I will have to defer to others. I am not much of a fan but in fairness haven't given it much of a chance. In any case I certainly am in no position to comment on the show. To any who might actually care, unfortunately the liver in question was "too fatty" and the doctors advised against it. We are still waiting on a suitable donor. There were two good signs from last week however. One is that Laura was removed from the respirator entirely. The second is that a liver infected with Hepatitis B became available late last week but the Docs also advised against that one. The reason that is good news is that 3 weeks ago a liver was available with Hepatitis C. At that point the doctors said that they would advise to take a liver with Hep B, but not Hep C. Apparently her numbers have stabilized and her condition is not quite as dire as it was 3 weeks ago. For those who are of the belief, please continue to pray for them. Thanks. My neighbor's nephew's cat is going to be put down next week. Please pray for all involved. Also, Daniel Defoe died on this day in 1731. Please pray for his eternal soul. Oh... and if you have time, please pray Wilbon and TK don't strain their vocal chords on "PTI" today.

Seriously though, you really don't understand the difference between things that are to be taken lightly and issues which are serious in nature? Scroll back a ways and you will see one of your fellow hoyas mention that some things trancend sports and go way beyond supporting/praising your own team and criticizing the others and that this is one such case. I think you could learn a lot from that guy. Enough from me on this one, we can argue on another thread.

I think you could learn a lot from that guy. Enough from me on this one, we can argue on another thread. Dude, I get it. Scroll back and read my original post. If you bothered to read it, you'd see I paid my respects to your friend. It's not her I have a problem with, obviously. It's your posting it here that is of no use to anyone at all. Especially when you post something like "Great News" on the HoyaTalk board. We don't know your friend. We don't care. We wish her the best, of course. But keep it in house, man. That's family business. You didn't see me here yapping about "pray for my grandmother" when both of them passed over the past couple years. And I'm sure I'm not alone. My guess is everyone on the board has had to deal with loss in one way or another over the past few years. They just have the courtesy to keep emotional, personal business like that off a public message board. Nobody needs to know about your (or anyone else's) troubles. There are support-sites if you are really struggling through this. This isn't a therapy session.

I understand your "I don't want to hear it" attitude and your "I have problems of my own." I understand that. But for those of us from a certain faith, there is something to be gained from prayer. If you don't want to or don't believe that, then that is your business. In any case whether any of these prayers "worked" or not is certainly something we will not agree on ... at least in this lifetime. We aren't out of the woods by any stretch, but since yesterday afternoon another liver did become available. The surgery was scheduled for 6am this morning. Not wanting to jump the gun again, I didn't mention it. I just got this follow up from Pete, and not even your sour-puss attitude can put a damper on this Great News right now:
We just met with the surgeon, and as he came down he had a big smile on his face. He said that the surgery went very well, and that they're wrapping things up in the operating room. We should be able to see her in about an hour or an hour and a half. The new liver has started working and producing bile, and everything checks out very well so far. This is one of the greatest days of my life!! I can't tell you how happy we are right now. We know we have a challenging road ahead of us with respect to recovery, but I can assure you that we are very ready to accept this challenge and get Laura back up to speed. -Pete
All past prayers are deeply appreciated, and for those who wish, any continued prayers are as well.

It's not the request for PRAYER that some of us have a problem with. I couldn't care less about someone else's faith/desire to pray/desire to be left alone/etc.
It's the REQUEST for prayer that I find inappropriate for this venue, basketball board or not. Your faith is your business. Not mine, or anyone elses on this board. Let's keep it that way. If you're offering up your sympathy for someone (i.e. Maggie Dixon and her family), fine. But to go looking for sympathy in this forum is, to me, in poor taste.
To each his own...

Everyone knows that God was invented by an advertising agency in 1923.

Once again, this is not the thread for arguments and negativity. There are plenty of other threads for things of that sort. I will not engage in anymore here. To those giving prayers again we thank you.

Finally some recognition. I prayed to Satan for you. I hope all your evil wishes came true. You can thank me later.
Please note that you can earn your soul back with a fiddle contest (wink wink)

Once again, only for those interested here is the latest update:
In Laura's words yesterday afternoon: "I'm having a really good day today." She was more awake and alert and smiling than I'd seen her in a month and a half. The doctors are still monitoring the level of rejection that she is experiencing, but as I understand it, the rejection is something natural and it's something that they have to deal with to some degree with pretty much all transplants until they get the right balance of medications working for her. There are complications associated with either direction, but I'm confident the doctors will do what's in Laura's best interest. She had a biopsy this morning, and she was fast asleep when I went in to see her, but there's a very good chance that she'll be moving up to the 9th floor either this afternoon or tomorrow sometime. Once that happens, she'll be able to have more visitation. -Pete

Once again, only for those interested here is the latest update: [/i][/quote] Yeah, once again, that's nobody. I thought we had agreed to keep personal business personal? That's family business man, please don't go broadcasting it around here. Just something we don't do in HoyaTalk land. Seriously, trying to extend the olive branch on this topic.

there's just something really weird about having to go onto a basketball message board looking for sympathy. even jesus would roll His eyes.
i do hope your friend or whatever gets better but i just don't get it.
there's also something weird about checking out a basketball msg board at 430 in the morning but that's another story.
