Last night the life was snuffed out of former President of the United States, David Palmer. An assassin’s bullet pierced his neck killing him instantly. Word is former CTU agent Jack Bauer, who was presumed dead, is responsible and a nation wide search is now on to bring the rogue agent in. There isn’t any truth to the rumors that the late Sherry Palmer had anything to do with the death of her former husband. Those who kept up with the first season of “24” know that not only did Palmer attend Georgetown, but was a member of the basketball team as well during the golden age of the John Thompson era. He will be missed.

MCI: thanks a million from all of us who DVR'd the episode with a plan to watch later in the week. As someone who tapes every game the Hoyas play, I would have thought you'd have some desire to leave the mystery in place.

Buff, that's the problem with you younger fans - no respect for tradition. I suppose you don't believe the tradition about John Carroll's statue either, do you?

TOTALLY RUINED IT FOR THOSE TIVO'ing, videotaping, or waiting for the DVD to come out... This is a hoya basketball board, I opened up this thread anticipating some truly sad news about a former player. I'd like to say "just kidding, you didn't really ruin it for me", but, ya, you did!

You people need to get laid.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have six hours of XBox 360 awaiting me...

As for the rest of you folks who are Tivo-ing....pardon me but I'm not use to people putting off a network TV show for five days or so before they get around to watching it. I guess I have to get used to this new technology that makes people take watching a show or game for granted. Now in my defense I told myself to hold off from writing this post until those on the west coast got a chance to see the two-parter. So applaud me for my restraint. ;D

Ya it does seem weird, but my girlfriend and I are in the middle of season 4 (we started watching 24 on DVD in my ty place in Cape Town South Africa during my semester abroad and have watched every season together since...).

I have been told that I would like 24 if I watched it. Not being much of a fan of television dramas, I've had many doubts about it, but have decided to give 24 a try as long as it is worth my time. Could someone tell me whether it is possible to jump into this, the 4th or 5th season of 24, midstream (i.e. after the premiere) and still be able to follow the plot and enjoy the show?

I think it is possible, but I'd get a netflix subscription and start with season 1. No commercials, no waiting, and the answer to each cliffhanger is just a click away on the next episode.

Problem fixed. Let's try to avoid easily misleading thread titles.

Jack, I think this would be an appropriate time to change your avatar back to Mr. Bauer. And MCI...thanks for rendering my thread completely pointless. At least I didn't spoil anything for the DVR crew. Jerk. Dan...my thread was first - it stays!!! And why is a college kid who watches too much sports and plays too many video games and too much poker an unlikely source for a thread about "24"?

Jack, I think this would be an appropriate time to change your avatar back to Mr. Bauer. Jack Bauer is a man of many talents, but even he could not lead the Hoyas to a W at Illinois. We'll see if Smiling Jack Ross can do better.

Hey, hey, hey, folks. We used to post "24" talk on the old boards all the time. Spoilers be da******. Once the west coast feed was up we'd just post stuff. Those were of course the pre-Tivo days. Now I get my thread title changed because its "misleading" or gives away spoilers? Man, too many pitfalls to avoid in today's modern sports forum interaction. Anyway I knew of assasinations of these two major characters for a couple of weeks. You should all bow down and praise me for not blurting out this info back then!!! No? Okay, umm, how about a slight genuflect? A letter of gratitude ? A thumbs up icon? Anything?

MCI- The point is not about posting spoilers- you can choose not to read a thread about 24 if you want to be sure to avoid spoilers or key plot points that you have not seen yet. The problem is when the thread says "RIP: A former Hoya great goes down" and it is posted on the main page, my first thought is not, "I bet this is 24-related, I should wait until I have watched the episode I could not watch last night in case he is talking about a fictional Hoya great." My first inclination is more like, "What happened to Victor Page?"

Okay, props to MCI for keeping his mouth shut. I'm glad I didn't look into the new season in advance. I have never had that reaction to something I saw on a fictional television series before (and I watch "Nip/Tuck" and "Lost" as well). I don't care what happens the rest of the season, I bow and genuflect and such to the writers of 24 for last night's opening. The previews said the first ten minutes would shock us. For once, they were right.

My first inclination is more like, "What happened to Victor Page?" I hear ya. But you see on the TV message boards I sometimes frequent the rule of law is that spoilers are okay for broadcast TV shows after the episode is aired in every part of the country. Typically I apply such rules to any web forums I go to, even sports boards. I just never figured that eight or so hours later people who watched the show regularly would still be un-spoiled. But alas we are in the era of Tivo, DVD-HVR (or whatever the hell its called), downloads to Ipods, etc. I guess those old rules no longer apply. People now dictate their own schedule when it comes to watching shows, not the networks. My bad. Won't happen anymore. :sniff, sniff::
