I think that if someone commits a crime, and the prosecutor thinks he can prove it, he should move for an indictment.
I do have a problem with the use of an independent prosecutor/special prosecutor who is assigned to focus solely on one case. I think you lose the perspective that a prosecutor needs when he has to deal with multiple cases. Without multiple cases to deal with, the need for judicial discretion disappears under the laser like focus of an office dedicated solely to one alleged crime.
I think Scalia's words still ring true and the special prosecutor should also be done away with.

$2.4 Million !?! Well, if you're going to break the law, you might as well get your money's worth. I'm not sure how anyone could think they could get away with that.

Aaah, Randy Duke. Let's just put it this way -- most of my high school friends are very Republican (being from Randy Duke's constituency) and even before this each one would tell you the guy was a prick. This guy waved the flag and campaigned entirely on being a veteran, yet took bribes to steer defense contracts to certain companies -- instead of awarding based on quality. You know, the stuff our soliders rely on. He also proposed the flag burning amendment, claiming that those who died on 9/11 and the rescue workers there would tell you that flag burning is too disrepectful to be allowed to continue. Then he voted to screw the rescue workers and widows of 9/11 out of benefits. He's the utter scum of the earth, just like just about every San Diego politician.
