As stated above, I question the motive of the Saudi donation for a Muslim studies center to "promote Christian-Muslim understanding& How did this slip into the College Republicans discussion? As a point of clarification, the $20M gift does not fund an Islamic studies major. According to the GU web site, "The gift will endow three faculty chairs, expand programmatic and academic outreach activities, provide new scholarship support for students, broaden opportunities for research and policy discussions and expand library facilities." In academic-speak, it's a faculty and research project.

When I was a student we thought that the faculty, with a few notable exceptions, was way too conservative, lead by the government, history and econ departments. Then there were the Jesuits many of whom wanted to bring back The Spanish Inquisition. The Alumni at the time were definitely to the right of Attila the Hun.
Now many students and alumni consider the faculty way too liberal.
The times, they are alway changing!
