Nice how you made the whole post a big link I agree, I don't think its a really good move for him unless he's really concerned about finishing his education. If he is concerned about getting his degree, good for him. But from a strictly basketball perspective I don't think his stock will get much higher than it was at the end of last season. He is what he is--a a 6'11 center with great shooting range but not a heck of a lot else. Unless he comes back this year and shows that he can play defense or has a post up game, neither of which is too likely IMHO, I don't think his draft status will go anywhere but down. WVU will be a force next year though. A lot of our fans seem to think well finish ahead of them, but I think our teams will be pretty evenly matched again like they were last year, and its gonna depend on whos hot when. Gansey, Herber, and Pittsnoggle will form a pretty solid core, and if they can develop a suitable replacement for Sally, I think they'll be a top 5 team in the NBE without a doubt.

I dunno about WVU. They will be good, but the losses of Sally and Fisher will hurt them a lot. Remember, without Sally they don't get out of the first round, maybe not even make the dance.
That was a team where they needed every part they had. It will be interesting to see how they do without those 2 parts. Could be like us in 2002, with Sweets but without Perry, Burton, Hunter.

Of course, everybody knows that a Georgetown grad wrote Country Roads. Therefore, we should always own WV.

No way, who is this mythical GU grad that we are talking about? There are a surprising number of GU grads in the music business - Vertical Horizon and Breaking Benjamin come to mind ...
On Pittsnogle - the team will at least be more confident with him returning and realizing that they can play with anyone - as we has seen first hand during last season - when a team realizes that they can have a scary up-side.

billl danoff is a 68grad from the institute .. he majored in chinese .. he wrote country roads and a bunch of other john denver hits.. he cut some of his own songs.. and then had the group starland vocal band... hence the restaurant starland cafe on macarther blvd in dc. and his band... starland vocal band did... afternoon delight... which may have gotten a grammy which sits in the clydes on m street i believe... they had a summer tv. show ..and then went their own ways.. thats the story of the coutry road that pittsnogle is taking.... go hoyas writers.. and bball team.. and all ;D Update to Lic's questions on the on-again, off-again smilies: this is a bug in the latest ProBoards release which other sites have asked about. The official response it that it is a issue with some IE browsers, but this does not appear to be the case. Stay tuned.--Admin

I think the gold record for "Afternoon Delight" is at Clydes.

This is one of the best thread titles in Hoyatalk history...by the way, what are some great other thread titles from the past few years???

I don't know about thread titles but one of my favorite threads was the one in which Frank Black posted Ode to Joy lyrics in the original German after Jeff Green qualified to play ball his freshman year. Another favorite was FB's theological comparison between Roman Catholicism and Methodism before the Duke game at Cameron......

RDF has had some good ones...I laughed out loud over some of the ones (and there were many) calling Mike Jarvis "Satan." Good times.

This whole "Afternoon Delight" thing is blowing my mind.
I laughed so hard I spit water all over my computer monitor!
One of my gal friends and I used to obnoxiously sing "Afternoon Delight" in high school and again in Law School. We also would regularly eat brunch at a restaurant named after the song...the coincidences are astounding!
There should be a whole Jeopardy! category on this stuff.
I vote that during the summer, we relax the whole OT v. on-topic discussions on the main HoyaTalk board. I mean, there isn't much to discuss about the program in the summer anyway (though the recent news has been great)...

Agreed SoCal - I enjoy the fact that we can make free connections between the program and just interesting trivia.

More coincidences about the Starland Vocal Band. My sister in Charlottesville, whom I just visited, once stayed at the house of one of the members of the SVB and co-writers of Country Roads. She may be Bill Danoff's wife now. My sister was quite good friends.

Bill and Taffy (nee Nivert) Danoff. I believe they are now divorced. As are Jon Carroll and Margo Chapman who were the other half of the SVB. I remember that SVB parlayed "Afternoon Delight" (which was the name of the afternoon appetizer menu at Clyde's) into a a CBS Summer variety show that was partially filmed in the Quad , and featured a then little known comic, David Letterman. I want to say it was in 1976 because I was in summer school that year.
