It's just really disappointing. Losing is one thing, but getting embarrassed by opponents is not acceptable. It should never happen, yet this is the 4th loss of the season that makes me shake my head and wonder why the school has a team if they're not going to support it (HC, Cornell and Penn being the other 3).
What's the story? Do the people at the top care? Our fearless AD indicates he does when he's talking to the New York Times, but the facts on the ground seem to indicate otherwise. What, if anything, has Muir done for football?
I also agree with the point about our failure to have radio for games to be emblematic of the university's lack of commitment to the program. It's just awful. JTIII gets a new multi-million dollar practice facility and we can't get someone to flip a switch on the radio station and have a single member of the student body or an interested alum volunteer to cover it.

am i wrong to assume that the new practice facility will have a new weightroom, offices, and lockerrooms for all sports?
was the playcalling today the normal dive left, dive right, dive left, pitch left, dive right? why we do produce some weeks and other weeks not continue that progression but regress in our play calling? let micelli go back to nyc with his fam. get coach gilbride back from temple to help this offense get some wheels.....

Not to dumb it down too much, but I think part of this staff's problem is "love". They seem to fall in love with certain plays and players, but they also seem to fall out of "love" with certain plays and players. Their decisions make little sense to the fans (and I suspect the players too) because they seem irrational to the objective observer who doesn't share their love/hate emotions. I know this sounds ridiculous, but no more ridiculous than this team's performance.

whatever weirdness that has led to this debacle , it has to be addressed !!!!Love/hate or perhaps just running it into the ground so the the staff might look good in the future , WHO KNOWS what strange minds we have running the football experience at GU ...I just know that it is too strange ...Look , we cant let teams regularly outscore us 20-30 and 40 -0 in the first half of the game . THIS HAS TO STOP .We all can see that the senior class has been totally abandonded by the staff , certainly today (as we saw/heard on the opponent broadcast ) we seemingly gave the ball to the freshmen /sophs and not the seniors (read:Van Fleet) ..GU is a football embarassment and if we cant find coaches , players , a field or a media broadcast then close it down ...there is little truth to anything in the NY TIMES article OTHER THAN WE ARE JUST HAPPY TO BE IN THE LEAGUE , PLAY SOME IVIES , GET EMBARASSED AND PRACTICE AT 6 AM .... what happened to the men of summer who whipped Maryland in the big 7 on 7 , perhaps we should play the last 2 games without coaches , let the grad assistants run it ...

we seemingly gave the ball to the freshmen /sophs and not the seniors (read:Van Fleet) Van Fleet broke his hand against Bucknell. He did not play against Lehigh according to the final stats. Games like this are lost on the offensive line. Lehigh's O-line had a 44 pound advantage versus the defense, Georgetown's O-line had a one pound advantage. Lehigh just pushed around the tackles and Georgetown has no options in that regard. This teams remains small, a little slow, and unable to control the line of scrimmage. Finally, I think you've beaten the 6:00 am practice issue right into the ground. As long as the team has to share the MSF with other teams, it's not going to have the flexibility to practice whenever it chooses.

well aware where football games are won and lost and its no secret we have nothing across the lines ...playing football at 6 am at georgetown university is the stupidest thing thats ever happened to the sport and it should be discussed continually till something changes ....its ridiculous ...I was using the FB as an example , thats all , i know people get hurt but they also come and go into and out of favor each week , this is bad too ...it seems nobody has a clue who will play or who will get the ball , we just know that the plays will be pathetic ...this is bad ..OVERALL , small and slow and weak would be a pretty bad football mix , combine it with lousy coaching and you end up down 30 after the first half of most games ...for those of us who still care its gotten EMBARASSING ...Also , I noticed that you didnt address the media portion of out "program" , that would be radio/internet , to me , GU may be the only university in the land that cant / wont figure it out and broadcast properly , it will soon be 2008 WTF....this season has been awful and yes it starts at 6 am , a ridiculous approach to football at GU and i dont give a hoot about hawaii or temple bball or any other swimming or crew reference, lets stick to our problems and they are many !!!!!!!

Okay guys. Your passion and commitment to GU football is admirable. Let's keep in mind that this website is available to everyone, including new recruits, their parents and their coaches.
Let's not make the recruiting task more difficult than it already may be.
The funding for Multi Sport, the new basketball practice facility and athletic center, and funding to support student athletes is on the horizon. Be patient, could be an announcement as soon as December 2007.
Kevin Kelly is the right guy. With proper resources, the football program has the opportunity to florish.
Two games remain, let's be positive and look toward the future.
GO HOYAS!!!!

This is D-I college football, not the high school jayvee. Let's treat it like D-I football: concerned fans can, and should, criticize the program. Imagine if some players' parents started posting on Notre Dame forums that fans should stop criticizing Charlie Weis for being 1-8. Or, if you like it better, what if a few years ago basketball parents started posting on forums that were critical of Esherick and suggested doing so was unacceptable. There would be open mockery. In my opinion, if we're going to take the next step as a program, we need to be able to perceive and present ourselves as a "real" college team, part of which is allowing for open, unapologetic criticism. To the extent you want to hide the truth from recruits, I simply disagree. To the extent that you don't think what's posted here is the truth, please correct it and contribute to the discussion (I'd be particularly to hear the evidence that Kelly is the right guy - really, I would. I want us to win in the future, but please point to some facts to evidence how Kelly will help us do it).

There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism. However, to recylce the same stuff week after week is not constructive. We are not, and never will be Notre Dame.
We are playing the hand we were dealt, the additional resources are on the way to make the football program competitive with the other teams in the Patriot League. Be patient.

Agreed, we're not Notre Dame. My point was that if we're going to have a "real" team, we should not coddle it from criticism. If you'd like it better: do you think the Lehigh parents are posting requests to stop criticizing their beleaguered coach? No way. Because they have real fans (read: not parents and former players) who take an interest in the team, warts and all.
As for the claim of "additional resources" being on the way, please tell us what, specifically, they are. If you have no such evidence, then don't try to pander to readers of this forum (including recruits) with false pie-in-the-sky claims. I'd rather be honest and bad then disingenuous in an effort to trick some high school kid reading this forum into coming to the Hilltop (after all, I hope the main reason recruits end up at G'town is an opportunity to get a world class education from a wonderful university). Further, as an alumnus, a former player, an active follower of the team, and one who dug into his pocket to give money to the as-of-yet-unnamed-and-who-knows-if-it-will-ever-be-completed- MSF, I think I'm entitled to know what commitment, if any, the university has to this program.

agreed 98 ..we all gave and got nothing at all from it ...we've obviously been misled , donors and recruits too ...if hoyaparents have info , lets hear because giving money hasnt entitled anyone to info ...if the current coach is the guy , lets hear why because he certainly looks awful right now and i'm more convinced than ever that the class'08 football would agree too ...maybe this guy knows alot more or maybe hes giving some real dough to help out or maybe he's got some access to better players because even with all the obstacles and stupidity , GU should attract players ...I recall a recent post from somebody wondering why we dont recruit in Chicago , we should listen to this person and recruit there too , theres a good idea !!!...You brought up recruiting , well , whats going on now cannot get much worse so the new recruits will have a chance to create something from NOTHING ...Rumors are that we have a bad rap with some high schools , that is not good and one wonders why we dont have great relationships ..the alumni want to know WTF GU is doing right because it all seems to stink right now ...Notre Dame ,Notre Dame ,no we are not Notre Dame ....Heres a question , do the alumni even know who this coach and his staff of football wizards ?

Okay, let's connect the dots. Several weeks ago an article appeared in the New York Times concerning the GU football program and the upgrading of the athletic facilities. Last week, the MSF upgrade, the new basketball and athletic center and the new science center were approved by the community board.
Do you really think that Mr. Muir and the university would go out on a limb if they weren't confident with respect to the funding for these projects? When the university is ready, the t's have been crossed, and the i's have been doted, I trust the university will make their announcement.
There's a process, let it take its course.

I like wishful thinking too, but if you're relying on those NY Times quotes and the ANC approval of our stadium, then I am not convinced. Last I knew, we were not 1/2 way to having enough money for the MSF (we're talking millions short).
If this program is going to be improved, we're going to do it on our own without relying on the AD. The MSF is at least a start. See my post in response to the "Dealing with Reality" thread for a proposal to help fix it.
