As I look out the window in the DC suburbs, it's obvious that the March 1st start date is out of the question. I never really counted on it anyway. Asking a favor, however. For those of you on this board living on campus, please let us know when you see some activity. Thanks.

all I know is I hear that the Board of Directors has indeed approved the go ahead for construction of phase 1according to a friend of mine- but my understanding is the latest version of phase one involves no actual "stadium" seating. Its just the groundword and the field I think. But its a start.

HoyafFanatic I like your idea if I were closer I'd be there start in the middle of the field. You may just get it started. ;D

3/3/05
Looking out my window from the Southwest quad that overlooks Harbin Field:
They are currently taking apart the home bleachers on Harbin Field.
Stay tuned for updates.

Why not dust off that digital camera and post photos as they progress? I think that Hoyas everywhere would really appreciate that. What do you think?

I'd have to use someone else's, I dont have one. Maybe I can use CAHoya's and have him post it in his online photo album.

I know it's painfully cold in DC, but has there been any activity at Harbin? I might be taking a first hand look on Saturday.

Well, here I am replying to my own question. I went by Harbin Field on Saturday. Both the visitors' and the home stands have been removed and it looks like they are getting ready to install the field turf--that's always been scheduled as the first step. Don't know for sure what's next, but it is progress.

AWESOME!!! I remember always seeing this sort of thing on other school's websites and wondering why GU couldnt provide photos of construction projects. There should have been stuff like this somewhere for the Quad and now for the Performing Arts Center.

Had a few bulldozers out there tearing the place up this morning -- looks like there's no turning back at this point!

Looks like they have clarified the phases of construction on guhoyas.com. The facility will be built in a two-phase sequence to minimize the effect on game schedules, to allow for greater integration among facility projects, and to allow more time to continue the fundraising efforts. Phase 1A will involve the construction of the artificial turf field, East Stands, North Lawn, and the permanent and temporary fencing. The existing scoreboard will be temporarily relocated and reused. Phase 1B will include the completion of the West stands, permanent fencing, a two-level press box, support spaces, locker rooms, video and conference rooms, training room, and other support spaces as well as a new scoreboard. guhoyas.collegesports.com/genrel/033005aaa.htmlI'm really hoping that they fully complete Phase 1A by the fall. It would be awesome to at least have one side of the stands completed by then. I hope they can get the facility fully completed by fall 2006.

I happened to drive by Harbin Field last night. There's some serious construction going on! I had been hearing a variety of reports about what was to be completed this season. Among them was a rumor that only the field surface would be installed. Well, there are already footings in place for the construction of the visitor's stands--I couldn't see what was happening on the home side. I have no information, but it's pretty obvious that the place will be quite different this fall...in various ways. Can't wait... ;D
