1 & 10: From the HC41, I-formation, O'Neill rolls right and throws complete to Duggan at midfield, he breaks free and scampers down to the 20 before he is tackled by Blainfield, who gets dinged up.
HEADING FOR OT.
Hate to say it, but given the Hoyas' ineptitude on special teams this season and inconsistency on both sides of the ball, I'm not optimistic about overtime. Here's hoping for a miracle...

The gray cloud over Hoya athletics continues again.
A long off season.

. . . just long enough.
Holy Cross wins in overtime, 31-28. Hoyas end up winless in the Patriot League. 3-8 overall, 0-6 Patriot League.
Tough way to end a career for the seniors; they deserved better.
Sarin does set the record for rushing in a season, and 3 seniors caught TD passes.

Just got back from the game. Talk about a huge dissapointment. When we were up 28-14 in the 3rd quarter I was pretty confident. Then one of the kids with us said that he bet we would blow the lead at some point. I didn't want to believe him but he ended up being right. The run on 3rd down got them just close enough to make the game winning FG, which cleared the goalposts by only a few feet.
Very painful loss. Only good thing that came out of it for me is that I got my voice in game shape for basketball season by screaming my head off all game long. I'm now ready for endless chanting and screaming on Monday night.

How many students were there? Probably as many as will show up against Temple, I'm afraid.

Just got back from the painful game as well. Not much to say, other than, as painful as it is for me to admit, Holy Cross deserved to win that game. You could see it on the body language of both sides. Holy Cross players coming out of the gate were pumped and jumping around, while Georgetown players just seemed dead. Holy Cross had the confidence, we didn't. THAT was the difference in the game.

I usually can't tell if the Hoya Blue guys are there, because they sit in an entirely different area as us.
I do know that they were supposed to have a tailgate at 11am this morning, and there were maybe 30 or so people hanging out on top of cars behind the north end zone closest to Yates. They were probably there.
There were not many students in my estimation, but it's always hard to tell because we are always very spread out. I think there will be A LOT more students at the Temple game on Monday though. It's got a decent buzz around campus, IMO, and fliers have been up for about a week now.
A lot of students showed up for our opener against Grambling last year, although it was on a Friday night, not Monday.
Temple is 100 times better than Grambling though.

Attendance may not be great at basketball games a lot of the time, but its always better then football games by far (unless its over break). Hoya Blue is doing some stuff and we have been doing a lot of planning for the season. I think people are very excited about the Temple game and I would expect very good student attendance. Freshman are also usually very interested in attending their first college basketball game, we had a large student crowd for the Grambling game just because of that. I know there are some problems we have to deal with, but comparing football and basketball attendance just doesnt work that well in my opinion. Almost no students on campus care about the football team, but you can always find a group that follows basketball.

I saw some of the other Hoya Blue guys there but as you say they sit at the other end of the bleachers for some reason. A small group of us sits by the band every game, which is where I think all the students should be, but a bunch of students sit all the way on the other end, which I've never understood. I think a major problem at football games is that there is no specific student section and everyone is split up. This destroys spirit and prevents any unified cheers. If they want to improve the atmosphere at games a student section needs to be created next to the band. As for the tailgate/barbecue, Hoya Blue was barbecuing in the McDonough parking lot. The Lot T stuff was probably Beer Gugs and what ever other lunatics were with them.

Attendance Monday is likely to be disappointing.
Alot of our students are Bostonians. The Patriots are playing Monday night. Most Pats fans would put the Pats ahead of the Hoyas. Plus, Mondays are reserved for football, so I think MNF will cost us some fans.
Also, alot of people might spend the night preparing for their trip home for Thanksgiving on Tuesday (alot of people don't leave until Wednesday, but plenty of us are skedaddling Tuesday morning/afternoon). Also, many people will have papers due before they leave, and will stay in to finish them.
I don't know where the idea of "buzz" on campus got started. I'd rate the buzz as "zilch". I've seen like two posters, and I'm sorry, but they won't convince people to go to the game. There needs to be people handing out - and I know this sounds nuts, but - FREE TICKETS outside the cafeteria. If students have the tickets in hand, they are 200% more likely to attend. You might lose money at first, but think long-term - more fans at the first game means more fans keep interest after the first game, which means more ticket sales later on. I have heard NO talk of basketball season yet. It's just not a topic of conversation yet. Win some games, or give out free tickets, and it might be.
I'd say the chances of matching the first-game attendance of the last two years are between slim and none. And Slim just caught his flight home for Thanksgiving.

Again, Special Teams is blamed for the final result... but where were the Safeties?
HOLY CROSS-TD, S Gruber 20 YD PASS FROM J O'Neil (M Desantis, KICK) 2:57 2nd Qtr
HOLY CROSS-TD, S Gruber 16 YD PASS FROM J O'Neil (M Desantis, KICK) 13:04 3rd Qtr
HOLY CROSS-TD, T Harrison 36 YD PASS FROM J O'Neil (M Desantis, KICK) 8:30 4th Qtr
This game should not have come down to a wet ball errant center snap...
