i think it should be clear by now that keith allan should not be the starter. he clearly has performed miserably the last two games. he is great athlete, but is not ready to take over the offense at this point in time. Crawford needs to be the starter until another quarterback can prove they can get the job done. The current passgame is a joke, even with protection being overall, pretty decent and recievers getting open.

not so sure about cangelosi yet, again, he is a great athlete, but not sure he's ready. i say give him a shot in the first half of colgate, and if he does not produce, you are left with no choice but crawford.

Well, (Mr. Crawford?), I dont think youve seen any games yet. The protection has been awful, everytime the QB throws he is on his back. The receivers are our biggest weakness after graduating our top three last year, we dont have a single WR who would start for Colgate, Lehigh, or Ford. These open receivers that you speak of do not exist. And about not producing, Crawford put up similar numbers to Allan's in his game against St. F's, the worst team in 1-AA, while Allan went against a mid-level patriot team. Also we have seen Crawford for two years. He is 0-8 against patriot league teams.

the opposition scored on their first possession, and yes we turned the ball over numerous times. 45 points does tell us that both sides off the ball were out of balance. I watched our opposition have all the time in the world to pick us appart, their qb wondered no pressure, and he was composed and good, in the backfied to throw to whom ever he pleased or hand off to a back the size of Sarin,{James]at leasure. YES the hoya qb could not function with the defensive pressure. I feel alot off wrong play calls were made with the coverage that was obvious. It was total frustration and I am not talking just about the fans but our offense. I wish I could have been in the meeting when the films were watched heard the coachs respones. The game had to rank up there with the worst in Hoya history. Sloppy for lack of a better word. we have to put it behind us and go on . If we knock off a Colgate, If the defense and offsence come together. This team can gel. No one individual lost this game it was a total team non- effort. Get it together. Hoyas pride is at stake. The qb is not the problem or answer, wr, ends flankers and backs need to do their jobs . defense needs to defend and pressure. This is a team and individual effort. The mis Q's could take up this whole page. Remember the coachs call the plays. GO HOYAS WAKE UP GET MAD.

Of course, as everyone realizes, the QB alone doesn't get beaten by 30+ points. I have seen two intrasquad scrimmages and all three games. It's clear to me that there is more talent on this team than we've seen displayed since the season began. I'm wondering if this team is pressing. They seem to be making the kind of mistakes that come from kids that are wound too tightly. Allan and Cangelosi are both better than they looked on Saturday, but they seemed much too afraid to make a mistake and that's usually when players make them. This week they will be playing their first game where almost nobody outside the team expects them to win. Sometimes, that's when kids play loose and suprise everyone--including themselves. We can only hope.

Wouldn't call Lafayette a miserable performance by Allen although last game...clearly. Here's the thing..if all summer the coaches felt he was the better QB, one bad game shouldn't change their mind. Try an recall Crawfords (or any other QB's first few games of their career). Mobility is clearly needed at QB, which is something neither Craw of Cang possess. ANd for all of you Cang fans keep one thing in mind...there's a reason he's not with NC. Allen's the guy. We need patience. He's only a soph with little experience.

Having played, I'm loathe to criticize the coaches over personnel decisions. That being said, we've seen of late that the best QB isn't always out on the field at any given time, and the staff has been quite stubborn in sticking with their guy despite obvious indications that it's not really working, and someone else could do it better.
There's a new offensive coordinator this year, which should mean a break from this rather dubious recent history. Nevertheless, I don't feel like there's even any real consensus from the coaching staff that Allan or Crawford is our guy.
I look at it like this: Crawford's a known quality, and I think we've seen what Allan can and can't do. Cangelosi should be a solid talent, and could be around for a while. I'd like to see him get a shot, because even if he's not markedly better than Crawford or Allan, at least he'll have another couple of years to develop. And if the staff has to go deeper down the depth chart, so be it. Heck, give that kid Fajenbaum a look, too.
Ultimately, I don't see the prospect of a banner season for the Hoyas based on the 3 games so far. At this point, I'm willing to accept some additional growing pains now if it will help resolve the QB situation next year. I don't like the prospect of heading into another season with no clear consensus at the QB slot - I think it will just lead to more of the same.

thank god for the team that all of you writing in about the QB spot aren't coaches.after a summer of practice that ended up Allen, Crawford & Cangelosi, in that order, you all think Cangelosi, Crawford & Allen (and some knucklehead suggested Fagjenbaum) have got to be kidding.I would hope for all of the QB's that one bad game doesn't warrant a benching. remember, Allen didn't decide to throw from his endzone v. Lafayette on his own. someone sent that play in and I think that instead of getting blindsided on the same play, maybe just maybe, someone was supposed to block. it is hard to play QB effectively from your back. And if you think he played poorly with his 4.5 speed, imagine the other guys, who can't get out of their own way.
I don't think anyone expected us to compete for the national title this year so let him play for more than a game ( Crawford certainly got that much last year ) and see what he can do. If any of you are students and know players on the team, try asking them who the team thinks is the best QB.

I would hope for all of the QB's that one bad game doesn't warrant a benching. From one knucklehead to another ("Mr. Allan, I presume?"), it hasn't been one bad game out of the QB position, it's been 3 - unless you want to call Gillman wearing his leg out against the worst team in Div-IAA (despite great field position all day long) a solid day on which the offense (and passing game in particular) was clearly clicking. To be fair, no QBs has had more than a short shot under less than ideal circumstances, so there's no point in trying to pin the blame on one guy. Nevertheless, it seems equally clear that whatever the coaches though about the passing attack coming into the season, those conclusions are no longer valid. There's commitment in the face of adversity, and then there's cutting off your nose to spite your face, and it's can be a fine line between the two. Moreover, while I have to qualify this by stating up front that I only saw the Lafayette game, I find it interesting that a line can get Sarin decent room to run (even against solid D's like Lafayette's and Duquense's), but is so horrible that the QBs are operating from their backs all day long. If Sarin can go for 154, 78, and 102 despite the obvious lack of a passing game to keep opponents from stacking the box, I'm not sure the line's solely to blame for the lack of production out of the QBs - heck, I'd be inclined to identify inexperience in the WR corp as the more likely culprit, rather than arguing it's the fault of inept linemen. Obviously, not every lineman pass protects as well as they drive block, and Duquense in particular clearly had a speed advantage on D across the board vs. the Hoyas, but if a QB can only be effective if he can stand tall in the pocket for 5 seconds on every play, I'm still not convinced that's our guy. Look, a lot has been said on this board out of frustration about this program's progress, or perceived lack thereof. The majority of us aren't able to watch the team day in and day out, so we have to judge based on the product that takes the field on Saturday. That being said, if the coaches commit to Allan for the rest of the season come hell or high water, I for one will root for him to return their vote of confidence by performing so well there's no question as to who should be QB next season. I want all Hoyas, whether it's Allan or that utter scrub Fajenbaum (as you seem to think of him), to perform well. However, if it looks like the coaches are now non-committal despite their earlier convictions, and I see ample reason as to why after 3 games, then you can bet that I'm going to heartily advocate exploring all options until they make their new decision. That's not being sour on one kid who's in a less than ideal situation - that's wanting the best for the team's long term future. Just one knucklehead to another.

Hey, if this knucklehead thing becomes a formal organization, count me in. ;D
I truly believe it's very early to judge this team and the QB. Maybe the most encouraging news is that we are primarily debating over a sophomore and a red-shirt freshman at that position. With the exception of the offensive line (more later), this is a young team. I want to see a few more games before I draw any conclusions about the personnel or the staff.
I am staying positive because I have seen talent on this team that just hasn't gotten it done yet. Now, my biggest concern is the 'O' line. These guys (most are seniors, I believe) should be the leaders and a dominant offensive line can make the offense work almost by themselves. Further, playing defense is an emotional thing and if the offense can control the ball a bit and put up a few points, the athletes on this defense can make life tough on people. I choose to hang in with these kids.

Looking back over this thread, I clearly spoke too soon in saying that "I think we've seen what Allan can and can't do." It was totally unfair, and based on my mistaken recollection that Keith played more last year. For what it's worth, Go Hoyas is right: two games against tough Ds is not an opportunity to really get the measure of what Go Hoyas Jr. can do as QB, and I recognize my error.
That being said, I'm still having a hard time envisioning where salvation for the O will come from. Maybe the line will gel against Colgate, and maybe the WR corp will come into its own. Being pessimistic about this team's future right now, I suspect that eventually it will only be change for change's sake that will turn things around this season. I really hope I'm wrong, because I think I see too much talent on both sides of the ball for the team to be preforming the way it is right now.
For what it's worth, I don't think Colgate is going to present a great opportunity to set things right. The beat Dartmouth at home 17-15 and lost to UMass on the road 20-30. I would think both those teams are a clear cut above Lafayette, St. Francis, or Duquense.

Just like "showcase" mentioned and a few other of you Knuckleheads.... The talent is clearly on the field!, not the sidelines, throwing from your own endzone isn't the smartest call, especially against a "D" that has already figure out the O!... The QB decision has been the first "good call" all season, young fresh talent will certainly grow and lead this team in the right direction. Which one of you Knuckleheads said the O-Line is blocking?..You need to watch the films again!

The quarterback that played against Lafyette ain't bad. The play calling that led up to and included the interception conversion was abhorent. We need a big tough son-of-a-bitch fullback type running back to get us out of a jam when we are pinned-down like we were when the interception was thrown. That Sarin kid, at 155 pounds, can't be expected to do much up the middle or off-tackle against a decent defense. Turn a fast guard into a situation back if you have to...that poor kid Sarin just bounces off the traffic and projects backwards into space.

Before all of you continue to rip into Crawford, will you please go to sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/clubhouse?collegeId=46 and check out the stats. Where do you get that Crawford had such a terrible game against St. Francis? He made every play that he had to make. He may not be the guy who will win georgetown games solely on his athletic ability, but he sure won't be the one to lose the games either. Past losses have been a result of poor team play. Im tired of hearing about giving fresh new talent a chance to grow. The Hoyas have the talent, its time to capitalize. Another issue on the team seems to be leadership. Crawford displays more leadership than any other quarterback on the team (which isnt surprising, him being a senior). Even after repeatedly being benched for his "terrible" performances, he has stuck with it and has the respect of his teammates (from what Ive heard from current players). He is not one to throw his hands in the air and give up, or loose his poise regardless how the game shapes up. Lets just hope our boys can bring home a victory this Saturday. Go Hoyas!

I don't know what to say about the QB situation anymore. It's hard to evaluate Crawford's performance in the first game because it was against St.Francis.
Regardless of what the depth chart looks like or who is starting this week, one of those QBs has to step up and assert themselves as the QB to lead this team for the rest of the season, and hopefully the next few seasons as well.

Interesting quote from Coach Benson in today's pre-game report on the Hoya Saxa page:
“We need to be balanced,” Benson said of his offense. “We need to throw the football to win this game.”
Regardless of who plays QB, it looks like he may be throwing a lot more. Maybe, if we are throwing on first or second down it will loosen up the defense--and maybe to offense, too.

the general consensus i find with guys on the team that ive talked to is that they think we can win with crawford right now. personally i think that it would be a shame to waste the talent that we have on the feild to get experience for a guy that isnt ready right now when we are capable of winning with another one. especially if his teammates are not comfortable with him back there. and by the way, i am a formerplayer, not mr. crawford

The thing is, this is definitely about more than just the QB. The offensive line isn't blocking, the play-calling has been rather questionable according to most people and the team is just playing poorly as a whole.
Regardless of who starts at QB, this needs to be a team effort if they plan on getting back in the win column.
