Are they going to be constructing it in stages like I heard earlier this year? I'm worried I may never get to see it completed over the next 3 and 1/2 years, lol.

As of December 2003,Dave Sears has indicated that the new field and stands will be ready for the Fall, 2005 season . The rest of the MSF will be built afterwards unless there is a major infusion of funds before then.

Caldad- any idea what the "stands" will consist of? The last drawings of the MSF leave the grandstands awfully vague. Are we just talking standard Cal high school concrete slabs? As much of an improvement as that would be, it would still strike me as a serious disapointment after making so much progress in a legit league and having heard the figure of a $23 million double decker stadium for years.

A lot of the "lull" is a combination of money and University priorities.
The fundraising has hit a plateau and I think some major donors are in a wait and see mode if this project will get off the drawing board and move some dirt. Concurrently, the University's budget mess makes it difficult to negotiate various programs in the mix (business school, MSF, science building, etc.) because the money's so tight.
And then there's McDonough, but that's another story entirely.

Do you mean money already pledged might not be forecoming because of the "wait and see"- or the completion money? I don't understand, it seems that more than enough has already bee raised to build the field and stands- atleast the stands as represented in the last set of renderings. why wait? Aren't the field and stands important enough to be built alone indefinately if need be?

I was told by Dave Sears in December that there was enough money committed(not merely pledged) to get the field and stands ready by the first game the fall of 2005. I am not certain what the stands will be like other than I was of the impression that the blue seats from the visitor's side are going to be used.

Thanks caldad. That is mildly encouraging anyway. When you say the blue seats would be used- do you mean they were going to build the whole thing merely out of those types of temporary bleachers- or that was going to be the visiting side?

Joe Lang said last night that the first part of the MSF construction is planned to be done in tandem with some infrastructure work being done for the Business School building, and that if it starts as scheduled this summer, the MSF phase one will be ready for Fall 05.

I am having a bit of trouble understanding this- I thought the MSF was significantly funded, while the business facility was not at all. Why do they now seem to be so closely linked? I thought the MSF was years ahead of the business facility. I am starting to get very nervous about what kind of "stadium" we are going to get in the end. It went from a double decker beauty to now some very undefined "stands" as part of "phase one." Caldad said something about the temporary blue bleachers. And in typical GU fashion, the biggest fans f the program seem to be in the dark about what is going on in McDonough. They have released several treatments of the proposed stadium- and each one has been measurably worse and more ambigous than the last. Anyone else worried that the actual stadium we are going to get is going to be a SEVERE letdown from the one we were shown years ago? What happens if people pledged money for a nice stadium and are justifiably ticked off that the plan seems to have changed to something far less ambitious? Can they re-neg?

I am also very worried. Why did they have that virtual tour up on guhoyas.com if that wasn't the final plan. I am very scared that the athletic department is going to blow this one. We need a beautiful state of the art facility to cement our place as a top D-1AA school, not just some more permanent stands that look like crap. I really hope they dont ruin everyones hopes. I am beginning to hate the athletic department, I think we need an overhaul over there.
