Great game all the round, particularly getting our bench significant PT. Can not wait for the big east. Everybody looked like they have made significant improvement from last year, absolutely no exceptions and I can never remember saying that.

My thoughts from the game: - Sapp impressed me the most. He was aggressive as always, but controlled, and very effective. - Roy definitely had an off night. I know he was 5 for 10 in the first half. He should have been 9 of 10. Missed gimmes. - I've never seen the freshmen play before. Freeman is a big dude, and very very good. Wright also looked great, but the guy wasn't really running the offense in the 2nd half. He finished 3 for 9. Most of the 6 misses were layup attempts under the basket. - In general, throw out all the stats from the last 30 minutes of the game. We were in control, and mostly messing around the rest of the way. Fast breaks were out of control. Not much discipline. Not that it was needed. - Defense was very good. - Best surprise of the night - the rebounding. We really cleaned up on the defensive glass. - Now, as far as Vern is concerned - he did a great job cleaning up around the bucket. He had a few good passes, and a block or two. But he just seems a big awkward. It doesn't seem like he has the ability to create his own shot. I'm sure he'll get there, though. Maybe this is why he's really only getting PT at Center?

For the reserves, I thought Macklin was fantastic, Freeman and Rivers very solid and Wright inconsistent - he hit some shots but made a lot of mistakes on both ends of the floor. It would seem to me based on very very early indications that Rivers and Freeman would play ahead of Wright on the assumption that either or both of Sapp/Wallace are going to play a lot when it counts. I'd guess they will all continue to improve. Very exciting times.

I thought the students did a great job today in helping the team set the tone early. The call-response cheers were more in sync than on Saturday, as well.
Official attendance at 12,653.

I think Wrights inconsistency has a lot to do with his injury and a lot of the practice time he missed. Thats why a game like today really helps us because we can get the bench much needed experience.

having missed the game on saturday, BEST GAME EVER to come back to. good lord. someone definitely said it best when they said we looked like we were in midseason form. i've never seen a jt3 team score 28 points in the first 8 minutes, to the best of my recollection, and it was over from there. i was also THRILLED to see some rotations of all freshmen/sophomores, because they held their own pretty well against michigan's starters.
my one worry, which i've been scared of since kenner: chris wright is almost too loose... he's undeniably incredible, arguably the/one of the most talented guards we've had here since iverson, but the kid just will not back down from anyone. he definitely drove into triple coverage a few times (and even made one or two of the shots?), but if we're playing a high-caliber opponent, there will be no garbage time minutes. i know he's a freshman, so JT3's got a ways yet with him, but it's just my biggest worry thusfar. (isn't it nice to have the biggest worry being a really good player being too aggressive?)

agree students were great from my section. much better then saterday.
Rebounding was ten tmes better. I think our true offense was in the first half... we were just playing around int eh second half with fast break and run and gun, it was not our true inside out offense that we run... It was nice to see the talent that i have heard so much about in wright and freeman. I was very impressed with the athletism of wright even though he really has only been practicing for about two weeks after his foot injury. freeman was good, but nothing spectalur.
What suprised me the most was the play of macklin... With the bashing he got on this board this last week, i think he reallty stepped up his play. Obviously he is no Roy (even no Roy on an off night like tonight) but he showed glimses of what could replace roy.
I was expecting soo much more of michigan outside game and threes, beside grady i was really dissapointed.. either out D was amazing or there O just sucked today... I liked how we switched from man to man to 2-3 zone alot... almost on possesion to possesion we changed... i think we did better when we played man to man, especially when we had a fast squad out there with rivers, wright and freeman, but i think we also did good when we changed to bigs and went to 2-3 zone with crawford, ewing, roy, sapp and wallace...
i was suprised crawford got a lot of minutes... i was happy for him.. since his flu last year he never got back into the season, so it was nice to see him back in teh line up..

Funniest moment of the game (other than the appearances of Captain Casual Friday and Amadu's Brother) - Vernon Macklin brings ball up and then drives in and misses a hook shot. Next time down Chris Wright does the same thing - you can't tell me that wasn't to poke fun at Vernon.

Really? Which game were you watching? Did you go get a beer when he drove the lane for a explosive dunk, sunk numerous threes and grabbed a number of key boards? To me, he looked very good for a freshman in his second game.

Awesome defense today. 5 airballs for Michigan in the 1st half? crazy. Roy was off. Granted, he still had a solid game and didnt play much but its Roy and he missed a bunch of short ones he usually never misses. When JWall and Roy both play <20 minutes and we still win by that big its a very good indicator of our depth. The 2nd half was almost entirely non starters, the lineup usually Wright, Freeman, Rivers, Macklin, Crawford. Wright was a little out of control but showed flashes of brilliance. He had a sick floater driving down the lane after crossing up a defender.
We played awesome but I have no idea what to think of Michigan. They looked like a mediocre high school team. Are they really that bad?

Hibbert and Wallace did a lot of sitting in the second half. If I'm going to be a little critical, I thought Hibbert was a little off tonight. He missed a bunch of shots he normally nails. He seemed a little out of sorts on the offensive end. On defense, on the other hand, he was a beast. Picking nits here, as I agree with the consensus that this was a very complete game by the whole team. Hibbert was fine. The refs just weren't calling fouls, especially in the first half. A combined four fouls in the first half, only one of which was shooting. They didn't figure out that their whistles worked until about 10 minutes left in the second half. I'm all for letting them play, but this was unusual. Fastest game, ever.

The game flew by. There was one free throw in the first half -ONE. Georgetown didn't shoot its first free throw until there were less than four minutes in the game. The game was almost over by 9.
Michigan looked young and scared. By the time they established any semblance of an offensive rythmn the game was over. Great job of putting away an inferior opponent early.
Perimeter shooting was great- we missed a lot around the breakfast.

Most things have been covered, but a few extra notes here:
1. The "Jeff Green's Mom" cheer. It seemed that the entire stadium got behind this one. Really cool.
2. Free throw defense. Michigan shot 5-10 from the line. I don't know what JTIII is feeding these guys, but it's paying off in defending at the charity stripe.
3. Development of the squad. At this time last year, we were depending on Wallace to carry us through games. Jeff didn't really show up to work (although the intangibles were all there) until December or January, and Roy was up and down. The entire squad is showing that there are any number of people able to step up, and this is only the second game of the season. With the pace JTIII's teams always improve throughout the first months of the season, watch out come January!
4. Was that the new Trenton Hillyer I saw?!
5. Looking ahead, I am psyched for the Memphis game. Calipari has been getting a lot of TV time lately, and man is that guy a jackarse. Last year at this time I would have been worried at the prospect of this game, but this year I have every confidence the Hoyas will be able to handle those guys.

I didn't see this mentioned yet: Kenny Izzo's replacement (Jansen?) spent a big effort boxing out Chris Wright from a rebound in the last minute not knowing it was one of his teammates. Wright looked at him like "what are you doing, idiot?" Funny.

I recorded Sportscenter's highlight package and Vern's spot in the top ten--is it kosher for me to put them up on youtube? Or is there another way I should do it so they'll stay up?
