Hi Hoyas, Marquette fan here. Congrats on the win. You guys just outplayed us offensively and we killed ourselves with turnovers. Buzz didn't help us out with that technical foul as it when the game was within 1 possession. I think Porter is one of the top players in the Big East and hopefully helps you guys make a nice tourney run.
That being said, before the game started I saw some people in the crowd holding a huge banner that had 7 guys in shirts/hoodies with the logo of each of the C7 schools and the quote read "Basketball is our religion". I must say that I absolutely loved it as did many other MU fans. Props to whoever made it and it would be an amazing t shirt idea.

Stronghold - I had nothing to do with the banner - didn't even see it till I got home. But I agree its pretty clever. (though i wish the C part of the C7 was replaced with B as many of the coaches have).
QQ - assuming you are a reasonable Quette fan, and not like the guy sitting near me in section 111 who was a jerk the entire game... do you guys get annoyed with Buzz's antics? ie Mostly his wandering on the court?
I would think even as a fan - i would start to hate him for it. But - obviously I'm a biased hoya fan.

That banner was awesome and I completely agree with stronghold that it would make a great t-shirt as well.
Re: Buzz. The walking on the court is annoying but it's the CONSTANT whining about every single call regardless of whether it's questionable. You'll notice it has spread to his players. I thought D'Angelo Harrison was the whiniest player I've seen this year. He has a lot of competition from Quette. Juan Anderson for one. It was actually funny when he ran right through Nate with his arms in front of his chest and whined for getting called for essentially checking Nate to the floor. Ridiculous.

Agreed. Great work, Stonewalls. Here's a screen grab from the ESPN broadcast. imgur.com/aMqOZ49

I will say as annoying as it is to see an opponent act that way, if you want to win thats usually how you act. Top competitors all do it (Kobe, Lebron, Brady etc.). Sometimes I wish JTIII would do it a bit more too.
Anyway, I was thinking last night that Marquette-Gtown could become the premier rivalry in the new league. Nova-Gtown or SJU-Gtown have more history, but the recent past (quette being in the top of the BE every year) suggests these two schools are going to be fighting for the top of the league every year. I look forward to that because these match ups are pretty hard fought.

I definitely love Buzz and what he has done with our team the last several years. He is quite the colorful character and alot of fun to watch. Normally I am not bothered by things he does but last night the technical came at such a bad time in the game and was over a very trivial call that was hard to determine even on the replays they showed on ESPN. I understand the competitive nature the coaches and players have but sometimes they need to use their noggin' a little more.
As far as what Jgalt said about us competing at the top of the new league, I am looking forward to that as well. We have an excellent recruiting class coming in next year with 3 top 100 players and a solid JUCO transfer (we seem to have success with them in recent years).

We have a new alumni rooting group called the Stonewalls, who made it. There are a bunch of members on here. One of them will likely chime in re: t-shirt intent. georgetownstonewalls.com/For the record, I preferred "Traitors and Liars will not be missed."

Bubble - I know you're in 111 too. Not sure you heard this guy the entire game - he was probably 6 or 7 seats to your left. Old guy, hammered, complaining about the attendence the entire game. just wouldn't shut up about it.

I noticed ESPN quickly cut away from that shot, without comment.
Once the new B7 contract is finalized, maybe the students should create Fox Sports 1 signs.

I believe this is part of Buzz's strategy. The officials can't call everything, particularly the grabs and holds off the ball. If he and his players complain and make it look like they are innocent, that only makes the official think twice about calling the stuff off the ball. This is part of Buzz's "toughness" approach. He recruits a bunch of 6'4" - 6'7" athletic guys that aren't necessarily top targets of other big-time programs. Let's be honest, it's not easy to recruit to an ugly urban campus in Milwaukee. So, he recruits tough kids, gets this toughness reputation (kind of like Cincinnati under Huggins), plays clutch/grab defense, then act all innocent any time the officials dare to make the proper call. This works for them at home. It risks backfiring on the road - potentially blowing up in his face like last night's technical. However, I very much think it's part of Buzz's MO and what he thinks he needs to do to win at Marquette.

Hard to complain about the students when season ticket holders are selling to opposing fans in conference when they are ranked.

I can't tell, are the people on the banner wearing ski masks? Is it Planet of the Apes?

After MU makes a basket, the opposing player taking the inbounds pass and bringing up the ball should deliberately pass the ball to Buzz (he's almost always outside the box looking at how his defense is setting up and yelling instructions). Let's see what the refs call when Buzz gets hit by the ball inside the court. Should be an automatic T...
