We shouldn't shy away from it. By almost all accounts, we are a better team than Pitt, and I'd be disappointed if we dont play that way. Maybe others, like Syracuse, took them for granted somewhat, but the numbers don't lie. We are a better team and we need to learn how to play that way on the road. This is a brutal environment for sure, but how many times do we need to go thru it before we realize that we can settle down and play our offense anywhere against anyone. These are games Elite 8 teams win and Sweet 16 teams probably lose.

By almost all accounts?
Pitt is 5-0 in the Big East. Their losses are exclusively when they were still missing Brown and Dixon was just back. They've won a significant road game, unlike us. What's our best win? Butler at a neutral site? UConn at home? They've got 3-4 wins that are better.
Pomeroy has them ranked 26th and us 18th... except that his numbers are full year. Whether the additions made them that much better or they are just riding a hot streak, Pitt would be ranked above us if people were just looking at conference play.
Based on actual performance, and not names/rankings/preseason expectations, Pitt may very well be better than us right now.
That said, after losing to Nova, we need this one right now. It's not must-win, but it puts incredible pressure on the Cuse and Duke games if we lose it.

By statistical accounts, we are a better team than Pitt. Again, you can harp on who they beat and who they lost to, but that is not what I am talking about. You can look at the stats and you can look at them play, and we are a better team. That's my opinion, and I am sticking to it.

I concede that this is the height of laziness, but I was wondering whether the Mods could be troubled to include the game start time and TV info (DC-oriented of course, so "MASN" and not "Big East Network" or whatever and no need to include "EST") in the title of these discussion and/or article threads. Much like they include the game score after the game ends.
In other words, something like "Hoyas @ Pitt (7:00pm Wed., ESPNU) Discussion.
I know DFW puts that on the front page and I can find it any of a million other places on the internet, but since I so often come directly here....

Pitt is shooting 44% on 3FG in conference, their opponents have shot 26%.
I thought Pitt was playing great defense against outside shooters, but it turns out that Pitt's five Big East opponents (DePaul, Cuse, Cinci, UConn, L'ville) have shot 30% on 3FG overall in conference.
If the Hoyas can make a high percentage of outside shots (Hoyas are shooting 40% on 3FG in conference), I think that can give Pitt some problems. If it turns out that Pitt is a great defensive team against the three, Hoyas are in trouble.

Gibbs is freaking automatic right now; if Wanamaker or Gilbert is making their threes, stopping them is going to be trouble.

Also, if it's not too much trouble, could the mods please provide me with reminder phone calls 60, 30 and 10 minutes before game time, just to be sure I don't forget. ;D (sorry, Big Dog...couldn't resist)

No way. Not after all the trouble I got in for including the word 'upset' in a thread title.

The last three regular season Big East champs lost 2, 3, and 3 games in conference during the season respectively. This is a must win for us and a must lose for Pitt! Not really, but Hoyas have as good a chance as anyone to win the league this year. I have a good feeling about this game - Hoyas by 12.

Everybody can lie with statistics. 63% of people know that.

Fair enough. I still maintain we are the better team. I hope I am right, and I sure everyone else does as well...

I really don't think we have much of a chance to win the Big East this year, we simply don't have a favorable enough schedule. To have any chance of winning it we would have to win 4 or 5 of these remaining games: @pitt, @cuse, @louisville, @wvu, Nova, Cuse(With Nova at home being a must win along with one of the Cuse games). And not drop a game we are favored in. I just don't see that happening. I think @nova was our best chance for a signature road win and we didn't get it. That doesn't leave me much hope for any of these games.

Go Hoyas! Play all out as you have been recently... add a touch of consistency and man up inside! Don't let PITT intimidate you in the paint... or anywhere on the floor. Greg, Julian and Jerrelle need to and WILL bang AND play precision hoops.
GO HOYAS!! Take it to them and bring home a "W"!!!

And ESPN GameCast just attributed a steal to Nikita. Wonderful if we could start getting input from former players. I want at least 4 rebounds from Egerson this game.
