No, you can't past the whole thing. Actually, the link is for the Blue Ribbon preview of the Hoyas. As in years past, if anyone wants to PM me his or her email address, I'll send them a copy of the article.

Vaughn was not a good defensive rebounder last year or at Florida State. He's not an intimidating inside presence. He's got some bulk, is tricky on the offensive glass, and I have real hopes for his offense if he can cut down on the butterfingers, but I just don't see him as anywhere near as likely as Henry to be a defensive or even a rebounding presence.
I know there's a couple of people like you who seem to think we didn't see the real Vaughn last year because of other circumstances/injury/first year in the system.
I didn't see what you are describing (and the stats are in line with what I saw) so I guess I'm going to remain skeptical.
--------------
As for Monroe and his natural position ... when Jeff shuffled between the two, not much changed in his offensive game. On defense, I think Monroe will be the better 4 and 5 -- no matter who is playing with him. We just need someone big to play with him.

Rather than simply Sims making a leap, I think the key is how well Sims, Vaughan, and/or Greg are able to add a second position. The 4 and the 5 are pretty different in the G'town offense, and last year, the ability to play extended frontcourt lineups was significantly limited by a number of single-position big men. If any of the three has added a position in the offseason (but especially if they all have), then the flexibility to mix lineups--and the formidability of the frontcourt--will increase tremendously. I'm not actually worried about the offense nearly as much as the defense. I couldn't agree more. This was the big problem last year and it continues to worry me.

I'd argue we figured out how to play defense right around the Nova game, the problem was the team forgot how to play the rest of the game (or perhaps my perception was skewed by playing bad offensive teams at the very end, whatever, not a big point) And as for Henry/Julian, it may be of note that Julian is listed as a PF on guhoyas while Henry (and Greg) are listed as centers. Henry should be looked at as a favorite to start but I wouldn't rule out a Chris-Austin-Hollis-Julian-Greg lineup (or a C-A-Nikita-J-G one)

A little of column A and a little of column B, possible. We certainly couldn't play offense and defense together. Julian was clearly the offensive center ("hub") backup last year while Henry played a much less centric role. I don't know that GU Hoyas means much. That said, we likely have a three man rotation down there -- we're going to see plenty of JV-GM and GM-HS and maybe some HS-JV. I just hope there isn't much NM or HT at PF.

My hope is the ONLY people who get on the court at the 4 and 5 positions are Greg, Julian and Henry.
Julian did play defense very well in the first big win at UCONN, spelling Greg in the second half on a constant offense/defense switch due to Greg's foul trouble.
But I readily acknowledge he did not make a strong, year-long impression. So my outlook is based partly on "hope", some things I've read and heard about Julian being a different player in practice, a year in the system, a new dynamic on the team, and...extreme need!
Henry showed flashes of brilliance on the offensive end and potential on D. I think he needs to start next to Greg -- regardless of which one is called the 4 and the 5. Julian could/should spell both.
Whoever plays the 4/5... everyone who posted about REBOUNDING being a big problem last year is, of course, 100% correct. I just don't believe that JT3 will let that happen again. Not saying we are going to lead the league in Boards or anything, but just be respectable -- especially on the defensive end.
And... I wish we would recruit some more guys like Nate - -who sounds like a big tough inside guy, who can also step out and hit a three. But even is some other big, tough, inside guy can't step out and hit the three, bring him in anyway. We need him. Badly!

I can agree with that SF. I dont really care what combination gets in done, just as long as long as it gets done. The deficiencies are well documented. Rebounding is the obvious need, but as much as that is needed i think length is too. There is a correlation b/w the two tho. To me, seeing any combo of GM and JV/HS and Hollis will make us long enuff to defend anything near the basket. I look at the Lakers last year and their length. It was a definitive advantage for teams driving to the bucket in terms of them challenging shots and grabbing boards. At 6'11"/6'10"/6'8" we would nba type length in the front court. I think that will prove to be very important. I dont know off hand, but id wager that our front court would be in the top 3 of the BE in terms of size/length.

I am a big Julian supporter, as most of you know. He looks ready to produce some positive results this year. JT3 groups all forwards and centers as "BIGS" and they have similiar roles, sometimes interchangable. We know Greg is getting 35 minutes in BE competition, but how it shakes out with Julian and Henry is how they practice, as we saw last year. Of course, if they come in and lay an egg like Omar did when he got the spot, then the bench could be very warm
This year is a make or break year for Julian. I hope it is a make not a break.
It still is a team game. Thankfully, we still have Greg.

If the link for some reason doesn't work, just go to the main Men's basketball page at ESPN.com Then click the 'big east preview' tab and it should take you to the free preview. Hope that works... insider.espn.go.com/ncb/insider/news/story?id=4536762or www.espn.com
