Thanks lichoya. You have a very unique writing style. For anyone interested in another account of yesterday's action, here is a write-up by a friend, who goes by the name "Slovenianhoya." Enjoy:
First and foremost, Chris Wright's ankle is OK. He played in game one of DCX vs. somebody and from what some guy sitting in front of me said, his ankle held up just fine. That's good news. . .
On to the matter at hand, Clydes vs. Premier Athletics . . . a mixed bag from Jason Clark and Henry Sims. Let's just say it is good that they are not going to be our starters and it is also evident that they are sophomore back-ups not really ready for the big time. . .. unfortunately Big Henry is closer to the starting lineup than Jason. That being said, they were playing with a Clyde's team that had no ball handlers of note outside of Clark and only one solid player besides our two Hoyas. That also being said, Clark looked like he regressed tonight. He had one really bad turnover in the first half where he went into a spin move with his dribble out so far from his body that his defender just stepped forward and took the ball and headed up court with it. Worse than that is that he had three similar turnovers during a crucial part of the last five minutes of the game when the outcome was in the balance. Not good, not good at all. Besides that, which is hard to overlook, Clark had another great game - if that is possible given the mistakes he made. He rebounded and scored inside on putbacks and driving to the hoop. He took hard contact, sometimes scoring regardless and otherwise getting himself to the line. He made good decisions and ran his team well. One of the more impressive plays he had was against a defender one on one on a fast break. The guy decided to try to take a charge. Jason lowered his shoulder and leveled the guy, absorbed the contact and floated in a bank shot after taking one of his two steps after dropping the dude. It could have been a charge (and maybe a block). Either way, I liked the aggressive nature of the play and that he scored after taking quite a hit, even though he was the one delivering the blow. He hit all kinds of leaners and floaters in the game but it is hard to not look at the four bad turnovers he had. One looked like it could have been a foul but he still put himself in a bad situation with his out of control handle. Tomorrow he plays again with Henry against Chris Wright's DCX team so we will be able to see if the turnovers are more the norm or an aberration . . .
As for Sims, also a mixed bag but I think he played much better overall showing - even revealing more aspects to his improving game. He did have a hard to swallow and overlook 5-10 shooting night from the FT line. That is bad. He did however get to the line that often, which is in and of itself pretty impressive. In the first half, he had 5 assistesses and two more that should have been dimes (that makes 70 cent) but the goofs on the receiving end of the passes muffed both of the plays. He had a couple more nice passes in the second half primarily finding the other big man he was playing with. That is something that is nice to see and would be great to have happen between him and Monroe. A number of people have commented that they saw or heard or remember or something that Sims and Monroe have a really nice rapport for two big men. If Henry's passing tonight is any indication, then I would say that this could be a nice and unexpected welcomed surprise in our offense . . . two 6'10" guys finding each other all over the court for easy baskets off assistesses. That would be tremendous but seeing is believing and you have to insert the usual Kenner League caveat. However, Sims did his damage passing and scoring (he did a good amount of that too) against a 6'7", 230 point rising junior from Va Tech named Jeff Allen. I checked his stats and he started for the Hokies, played 30 minutes a game and averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds. The guy looked bigger than 230 and can really play. He is shorter than Henry but has a post up game and 8 rebounds a game for a decent Va Tech team last year is nothing to sneeze at. The Allen kid did score some on Henry but never in an embarassing way. Sims had just missed a few free throws and looked a little awkward offensively in one series and the very next time down the court, Allen beat Henry bad off the dribble prompting some ooh's and aah's and some giggles. Sims then pinned Allen's weak shizz against the backboard and that really got the crowd going. Sims rebounded the ball really well on the defensive glass and was quick to get outlets out to Jason. He also hit a couple of nice 12-15 foot jumpers but what I really liked was two back-to-back baskets he scored on Allen with some nice drop step post moves. I am not going to say that Henry is all growns-up but he is getting there and it was nice to see him do it against a good player. I did not see it but he apparently did really well against Beasley and Green and now this Jeff Allen guy so maybe he just needs to feel like he is being challenged.
In the end though, when it was crunch time, neither Sims nor Clark stepped up and Clyde's lost the game. It is important to reiterate that the team they were playing with was pretty bad but that was no real excuse. We shall see what happens tomorrow. For my final set of Kenner League games, it looks like I will get to see Jason and Henry go up against Chris Wright and then the Tombs play in the second game. With Hollis Thompson gone, I think that is all the Hoyas we have left in the tournament. Until next time . . .

Thank for friend for the report. The details are great, though the extrapolation of one Kenner League game to a season, especially in light of all the positive reports on Jason so far. Not saying your friend didn't see what he or she said, just saying it is one game.

Super writeup, hoyaball, but is it fair to say that Jason is a soph-sub not ready for the starting lineup? Don't get me wrong. I'm one of those who want Hollis in the starting five and prefer to have Jason coming off the bench. Its just that its arguable that Jason has been the best and most consistent Hoya in the KL this summer (based upon numerous reports). One bad game, one "off" game, should not take away from his overall play these past couple of weeks.
Edited to add : SFHoya beat me to the punch.

To Hoyaball:
First, Clark has his worst game I have ever seen him play. He missed about 5 lay ups in the game and had close to 10 turnovers. After he turned the ball over in the first half he went on tilt and pressed from that point on. He clearly knew he was having a bad game. He took himself out of the game for a few minutes. He was complaining to the refs like I have never see him do and at the end he slammed a chair.
I would not take too much away from the awful performance. Jason is going to be one of our top 5 players next year, whether he starts or doesn't.
Henry on the otherside had a great game. He must have had at least 5 really good assists in the first half. He was matched up with Jeff Allen of VT so this was tough competition (althought I am not sure how much Allen was trying after seeing him jack up so many 3s). This was the best game I have seen from Henry this summer.

Since FLHoya and HoyaSinceBirth were both absent, I figured I would try and fill in. My poor imitation is as follows. All stats slightly off or your money back.
DCX 84, Washington Associates 79 (Aquamarine Hunger Force)
Good old-fasioned defense-optional summer league game. Up tempo, lots of running and gunning, and so forth. Although the Hunger Force's roster has grown by 2 since the last time I saw them, DCX looked to have the better shooters, particularly the aforementioned Maurice Creek. Also posting a strong showing was a 6'9 forward who plays his ball at Georgetown. Georgetown College, that is (Maurice Pearson from Bethesda-Chevy Chase). There was also a guy from Harvard - Max Kenyi, I think? - who played pretty well.
DCX led 62-44 at the break but let WA back into it by going cold and playing sloppy while continuing the gentleman's agreement to play little D. The last two minutes ended up being interminably slow, as the Aquas fouled repeatedly. Chris Wright hit 3 of 4 FTs to help put the game away.
Chris Wright: 3-9 FG (1-4 3PT), 3-5 FT, 10 PTS, 8 AST, 2 TO, 4 REB
It was pretty obvious from the get-go that Chris intended to use this game to work on his passing skills. It wasn't quite Brandon Jennings at the McDonald's All-American Game, but it was a similar idea: if not for a number of failed finished by his teammates, Chris would've finished with at least 15 assists.
I should also mention that Chris did not start; in fact, although he was there for warmups, he didn't come out of the locker room area until 4 minutes into the game and didn't come in until the 12:30 mark. He also came off the bench in the second half, albeit only 3 minutes in (to the best of my recollection, he never came out once he entered the game).
Chris's approach to scoring could, for the most part, best be described as opportunistic. He didn't really seem concerned with trying to create his own shot, although he would pull the trigger if an open look presented itself. When he did penetrate, it was mostly to try to draw in the defense so that he could kick it back out. At times he did this with great success, as in the three dimes he collected by throwing it out to Creek for an open three.
His shot didn't seem to be falling too well, but it didn't matter all that much, since it was clear he was not looking to be a go-to scoring option. The final possession of the first half, which was by far the most organized play of the game, serves as a good encapsulation: Chris dribbled the clock down while surveying the defense, called for a screen at the top of the key, and then caught the help defended flatfooted with a sharp move, bisected the defense, and had an open lane to the basket...only to have the ball bounce off the rim after the shot was contested late at the rim.
Beyond Belief 53, Clyde's 44
A much more physical game than the opening contest, although there was no shortage of off the cuff and improvisational (read: undisciplined) play as well. Clydes held a 26-15 lead at the half thanks to some solid interior play play Henry and good team aggressiveness in going after boards and loose balls. A decent showing early on by Princeton's Ian Hummer.
In the second half, Jeff Allen stepped up his game and his supporting cast, a seemingly unheralded bunch from places like Lackawanna Junior College, kicked it up a notch as well. They also became much more physical and outmuscled Clydes a bit and forced them into some boneheaded play. The series down the stretch, which included Jason being stripped on consecutive possessions, were particularly ugly.
Henry Sims: 3-6 FG (0-1 3PT), 4-8 FT, 10 PTS, 5 AST, 1 TO, 10 REB, 1 BLK
Henry also seemed to be looking to pass first, although not to the same extent as Chris. He was also much more aggressive offensively, though, but ended up passing out of it most times (successfully, as the assist tally demonstrates). He did make some very nice and athletic moves in the 2nd half, but was generally more quiet, as Beyond Belief became more physical. Still, I really liked seeing Henry really get after it on the boards and display greater ball awareness and intensity than I’ve seen in the past. As many have commented, we will need him and/or Julian to step up their game in the rebounding department, and it’s good to see some progress.
Jason Clark: 4-13 FG (1-3 3PT), 3-4 FT, 12 PTS, 2 AST, 6 TO, 1 REB, 1 BLK
Jason looked to be working on his handle and dribble-drives in this game. The results? Well, he’d get to the basket…most of the time…but finishing was another story. Part of the problem is that while his handle is much improved when running downcourt, it still seems iffy in traffic, particularly when challenged (although his first basket did involve him seemingly running through someone and lobbing up a shot off the backboard).
On the other hand, Jason displayed a lot of energy on the court; the contrast between him and Chris, who seemed to hang back from the fray, was striking. In the game’s closing moments, Jason was stripped while handling the ball on two straight possessions. The second time, he screamed “that was a f***** foul!” at the referee as he watched Beyond Belief run the ball the other way. “What kind of foul did he say it was? An offensive foul?” a father asked his daughter jokingly. “He certainly said something offensive” I replied, with equal bemusement. But Jason was not done. At the next timeout, he gave one of the chairs on the bench a thorough smack, with the sound reverberating through the gym. And with that, Jason Clark earned himself the title of Player with the Greatest Emotional Investment in Kenner League (an honor made possible by this year’s tragic absence of Byron “I PLAY TO WIN” Mouton).
