heading down this afternoon...kind of bummed i won't be seeing GM and CW, but very excited nonetheless.
For parking, does the mcdonough parking lot not exist anymore? Do i have to park in the underground SW quadrangle parking lot? if someone knows the options, please let me know - thx!
also, how have crowds been? i don't have to get there too early to snag a seat, right?

On the was-he-wasn't-he-KD issue, both the seasoned old dogs around me and the announcer (at least once) said so, FWIW. I had no idea Beasley was there, though! Miss the announcer from two seasons ago ("one plus") who was very good.
I also noticed how winded Julian was. Asthma?

You should be able to sneak into the McD lot if there are spaces today but otherwise, SWQ is your best option.

Does Austin seem to be keeping the weight off?

Pleasantly surprised on Julian and glad to hear it even though I can't be there to watch...ARGH. Little concerned about Greg, but you know what with his mental strength, I wouldn't be surprised if this were a huge aberration before the season. H. Sims is progressing, and that's what you really want out of a guy you think is gonna be a beast junior and senior year. Realistically, if he shows flashes like against Beasley this year against really good BE opponents, it's gonna be a fun season.

Ahhh. The astute comments from the so-called "Air Crawford". I mean we all know that the problem with Austin Freeman the last couple of years has been his complete selfishness with the ball, right? Austin is always looking for his shot and not for anyone else and thus that's the problem! ::sigh:: I won't stoop to using the rolling-eyes emoticons (there seems to be some bad blood caused at times when that's utilized) but for those who may not have picked up on it the above comments by me were indeed meant to be taken as sarcasm. Look, if Austin wants to get a little shot happy during a summer league then let him. Especially considering that he needs to perhaps keep those one-on-one skills fresh because he doesn't get much of a chance to display them during the real season. And if that means Tyler Crawford, whom I'm a fan of, doesn't get as many shots if playing alongside Austin then big whoop. The Hoyas won't be counting on Tyler this season anyway. Also I think Julian and Austin are very close and I tend to doubt they were about to get into a tussle regarding Austin being a ballhog during a summer league game. Reading all the Kenner League reports today I see that no other commentator/poster outside of Air Crawford had any problem with Austin being aggressive and displaying a more confident handle of the rock. But maybe A.C. was just having a bad day. Speaking of bad days...regarding Monroe I have to admit I was disappointed to learn that Greg did not have a better showing. And I don't care who was guarding him. Nonetheless after reading Air Crawford's remarks I wonder if this is another example of some Hoya fans displaying their never-ending man crush on Jeff Green while dismissing all others who dare to follow in his footsteps. Because if so let me point out that while Monroe definitely needs to develop a right hand (and soon), far too many folks in Hoya Nation were suspiciously quiet about Jeff never developing a real comfort level with his left hand while he was at Georgetown (an imperfection in his game that kept him from being a truly elite threat off the dribble). So maybe A.C. should have some perspective or at least be a bit more fair. But at least Air Crawford was kind in his comments regarding Chris Wright, unlike the Live Twitter feed of the Casual Hoya website which trashed Chris by claiming Chris was still doing his reckless driving to the hoop. Hey, gotta love the continual positive outlook from that site (yes, more sarcasm). I realize everyone should not be writing puff pieces about the program but, man, that site sure loves throwing players under a bus. That's my one complaint about it.

I'll be happy if Austin is a ballhog next year. Dude is a scorer, and if anything, he defers too much.
The idea that Chris is a bad decision maker is way overdone. It's a simple matter of errors of commission getting noticed and errors of omission (not driving when it is open, e.g.) don't.
Chris can improve -- everone can. But he's better than a lot of people give him credit for.

For any Hoya fan who began watching the team in the last 25 years, Jeff Green led the most successful team we'd ever had. That makes it difficult to follow in his footsteps, especially when hyperbole such as "Monroe is more talented than Jeff Green!" followed by JTIII's worst season at Gtown gets thrown around. Fans aren't dismissing all other players, its just a reflection of a fan base that was led to believe that the current talent level was going to be much higher than the Jeff/Roy/Patrick/Summers team, a team that featured 4 NBA draft picks in the front court.
Monroe is just one of the myriad scapegoats that fans have chosen for a disappointing season, largely because the #1 recruit for Georgetown in the nation failed to lead the Hoyas past the first round of the NIT, despite 2 McD AA's and an NBA small forward joining him in the starting line-up. Summers is gone so blaming him is less fashionable. Same with Sapp and his connection to the legendary "incident". Chris gets plenty of crow on this board, as does Austin along with Greg. Pretty much the only kid who seems immune to criticism right now is Hollis Thompson.
My point is, its not about Jeff/Greg, it's about Jeff's Team vs. Greg's Team and watching Jeff play Greg reminds people that this team still has to prove itself.

Maybe Greg is more talented than Jeff, maybe he isn't. But all I know is that Jeff Green's freshmen team, which played in a weaker Big East and caught many Big East teams by surprise early on, also did not make it to the NCAA tourney and won only one more game in conference play than Monroe's team. If you look at the numbers put up by Green and Monroe in their freshmen years as well as the quality conference wins of their squads it pretty much comes out as even. But Jeff's team had little to no expectations coming in and Hoya fans were coming off a string of awful years. So even with the five game collapse in conference play to end the regular season there still was a feeling of hope and bigger things to come than there was after Greg's first year. Of course Jeff's first team went further in the Big East tournament and the NIT. The NIT I can understand because the two games the Hoyas won in 2005 were home games while this past season's team had to go on the road for its first NIT contest. But nothing excuses the loss to St John's in the first round of the BET this past spring.
When it came to ability this past season's team appeared to have more "talent" on paper based upon recruiting rankings and of course all of the the guys during Jeff's first year had to deal with the burden of learning a different system. That probably gives Jeff and his teammates the edge right there in this debate. But that's not really the point. Fact is that flaws could have been picked out for every player going into their second year at Georgetown.

I don't think anyone in this thread is ragging on players in any general way - just reporting what they noticed in Saturday's Kenner games, including some very pleasant surprises. Jason, Julian, Chris and Austin all played very well.
A few players didn't seem at their best yesterday. Jeff did indeed look great. Nothing more or less than that.

Complaining that Player X is taking too many shots in a Kenner League game is like complaining about Kenner League not having a rock solid schedule in advance. It's gonna happen, but at best it's a minor inconvenience.
On neither Wright's nor Freeman's shot selection do I see anything that could be construed as an outright negative. Ball handlers go 1 on 1 all the time and take shots all the time in the KL--this is nothing new or surprising.
Are they doing it during the season? Likely no--not as much anyway.
I see it as a chance to look at some minor but important details in their games. Can Austin dribble in traffic? How does Chris Wright finish at the rim? Can Austin continue to absorb contact on the way to the rim without tiring and losing his touch from the field/FT line?
You learn something even if the style of play isn't to your liking.
