I'll probably chime in more, but for now, here is a small taste of what about 50 Georgetown fans had to endure right next to the Syracuse student section in the upper deck, for pretty much the entire game.

I'm sure there are others on the board that can share some stories. I will say that after that experience, I have never been prouder to be a Hoya.

this video doesn't even begin to cover it. we had things thrown at us - cups, trash, water bottles, full beers, cups of ice, oranges, towels - for a large part of the second half, and it progressively got worse as the game got closer to the end. and it wasn't just a few kids throwing things - it was a huge number of them. by the end, we had to use our jackets as umbrellas. and the police stood by and watched. we asked the police to stand between the syracuse students and the georgetown section, and they refused to do so. when we were leaving, the police had to block the exit from syracuse students so we could leave safely.

Maybe we should bring orange juice the next time they come to the booth, it would make a good bath for their thugs. I had a similiar experience with their crowd when I went up there for the PSU football game.

I don't get it; is the Syracuse student TV station proud of these actions?

The glass bottles were an especially nice touch. Unfortunately for those burgeoning McNabbs, much of what was thrown ended up hitting the two rows of adult SU fans in front of us or went over the railing into the Cuse student section below.

Which is what I just commented on YouTube about. I've been to most Big East arenas now and never have I been treated so badly by opposing fans. The older alums at SU both times I've been in the Dome have been decent but their students are classless. I was in the front row of the GU section minding my own business, not fighting and certainly not deserving of getting hit with a nearly full soda cup thanks.

If someone from Philly is complaining about the treatment of opposing fans at a game, that must have been some hostile environment...

Like amc said, that video is just a tiny bit of it. We were being pelted with stuff the entire game, including glass bottles, food, and full water bottles. It was so bad that the Cuse fans in front of us were yelling at the security guards (the Cuse equivalent of DOPS) to get their own fans to stop throwing stuff.
I've got no problem with verbal stuff. I love it when we get some good back and forth with another fanbase. Stuff like an entire section chanting "F*** the Hoyas" is classless but harmless. But throwing stuff, especially the stuff the Cuse section was throwing, crosses the line in a big way. The same goes for the Cuse fans who ran full speed into any groups of Hoyas they could find in the concourse trying to knock us down.
If that sort of behavior would have happened at Verizon, half the students would have been thrown out of the building, and we'd probably be getting an angry e-mail from the AD about our behavior. I remember at Verizon once a student behind us threw a full beer. A security guard instantly went charging into the student section, the students behind the culprit immediately pointed him out, and the guard literally dragged the culprit out of the building. But that didn't happen at Cuse. It's hard to blame the guards, since there were a ton of people throwing stuff, and the other students weren't helping the guards find the culprits.
I've been in some pretty hostile arenas. I was the one guy wearing a Georgetown shirt in my section at Marquette last year. I've been part of a HOYA SAXA cheer in the concourse at Wachovia after we beat Nova. I walked through the gates with Hoya Blue singing our fight song before we played Ohio State in Ohio. We've had plenty of hostile words hurled at us, but no fanbase has ever crossed the line the way the Cuse fans did. It reinforced my opinion that they are simply despicable human beings.

i've seen 4 gtown games at the dome and i never experienced what's described here. other than some friendly banter, su fans at the dome were decent and just there to watch a game. i was even in the student section for iverson's freshman year game (gtown win) and just had fun talkin and acting stupid.
that being said, it seems the dome was amped up with the "orange out" which may have led to the experience you encountered on saturday. if summers hit that 3, that game would probably be the best in your life.

That is unbelievable. It takes the fun of a sports rivalry to a sick and decidedly un-fun level.

I've been a vocal voice in many hostile arenas, that was the worst I've seen without intervention by authorities. I'd say a lawsuit against the arena is bound to happen in the near future if they don't take action to prevent similar behavior.

Granted I'm saved from the worst of it in Philly not being an Eagles fan but even in my hometown, you don't need a police escort to get opposing fans out of the arena.

Huge props to the gtown fans who were there. They were extremely loud, and "Hoya Saxa" as well as a "We are Georgetown" cheers were distinctly audible on the ESPN broadcast.

| And, to be fair, the president of Otto's Army contacted the president of Hoya Blue to apologize for the actions of their minority of fans who were throwing things at Georgetown students. I hope people in McDonough are expressing concern with their counterparts at Syracuse.
