Yeah, but the refs hadn't been letting anyone decide it all night. They called AT LEAST 38 fouls, just based on 15 for the fouled out players and 23 on the 10 players in at the end of the game. I assume 1 or 2 might have been scattered off the court. 40 fouls?! The refs were atrocious. Whoever lost this game, they had gripes with the refs. How many stupid ticky tack fouls did they get?

Honestly, I understand 'Nova fans' problem with the game. But we would have had just as much reason to feel the same way if we had lost. That was poorly officiated start to finish.

It was worse than you thought. FORTY EIGHT FOULS. That's right. FORTY EIGHT. In a non OT game. And without either team fouling (well, intentionally) to stop the clock late in the game.

Nova fans have a right to be steamed about that call. Let the players decide the game. This is a BASKETBALL game. Not a FREE-THROW SHOOTING CONTEST. The stripes should take that garbage to the ACC. That was one of the most disgraceful shows of officiating I have ever seen. Basketball is not a sport entirely devoid of contact. Do not try to make it as such.

Wallace will get the pub for hitting a few clutch 3's and the GW winning FTs. But how many god awful turnovers did he have on entry passes (and even passes out on the perimeter)? Just unbelievably bad tonight in terms of making decisions and executing as a passer.

When they made their run after we went up 12, it seemed like we went about 3 minutes without even having a shot attempt. We were so damn sloppy with the ball tonight, and against any team that could hit the side of a barn, we would have lost.

Roy's line of 6 FG attempts is very deceiving. How many times was he unable to finish strong for an "and 1" tonight? 4? 5? Take the effing ball to the rim and finish strong, damnit. I'm pleading with you.

But it's not all his fault either. I'm sick and tired of watching Roy play half a game. PUT HIM IN! How can our best player dominate when he's on the bench?

I have such an empty feeling inside, which is crazy considering we won. It just doesn't even feel like we did. I hope the guys realize that, despite a very good defensive effort, they failed at about every other facet of the game miserably. I hate being so negative after a win, but there's no way of getting around it.

My god... I had flashbacks to Sam Jefferson at the Dome. This call was horrible and whoever made it should be reprimanded. I despise Nova, but that was wrong.
Things I'm sick of seeing.....
Ewing fouling out of control for no reason. He kept them in the game for awhile by putting them on the line.
Hibbert tugging the "Georgetown" on his jersey when we did nothing to deserve a win.
Lazy passes.
Dejuan staning in the same spot for an entire possession and his sad, depressing look when things aren't going well.
A coaching staff that can't figure out a 3/4 press that was truly just a disguised 2-3 zone. Junior high kids could attack it better.
Disgusting effort.....

That was a terrible way to end the game.
However, if the announcers or anyone else wants to harp on the last foul call, how about the call on Hibbert on the inbounds play when the defender was grabbing Hibbert's jersey, Hibbert goes up for the ball & a foul is called on Hibbert. Not to mention Scotty's 2 step & forearm shiver which earned him a few calls against us.
There were a bunch of horrible calls. Lets take the W & be happy we didn't lose.

I don't really get this "we deserved to lose" stuff. Yes, we were very poor and probably got bailed out with a suspect foul call. However, once again we played stifling defense and made Villanova look absolutely terrible. Are Villanova bad to begin with? Sure they are, but I thought we played pretty well on the defensive end. We of course turned the ball over like crazy and missed a ton of ugly shots, but to say we deserved to lose seems odd to me.

John Jacques,

We were up 12. We need to close out. We let an inferior team back into the game. And then we got bailed out by a BS call. Nobody loves this team more than me. But let's just say that game shouldn't have ended like that. When the talking heads say that Nova got hosed by that call tonight, they'll be 100 percent right. For once, Gottlieb will be justifyed in his Hoya-hating

Your argument will hold some weight when the rule book is amended to change the definition of a foul depending on time left on the clock. Until then, the only thing "justifyed" is our W.

a win is A WIN is A WIN.... be in on a blocked shot, a last second 3, or an inane foul....

I am happier today then i was saturday night. Jwall is partially out of his 3 point slump. hit 3 for 8. still frustrating when with the slightest press we pass the ball four times to get over the half court line. some stupid turnovers when we were up by 13. But we won. that is all that matters. We beat nova (one of our biggest rivals) at home for the first time. One of the best point guards int eh country scored 24 points, but we were able to shut the rest of there team down and we won. We played tenacious Defense, even with the refs calling every slight touch. Yes there are things that need to be improved. Roy needs the ball more inside. The rival reels video were pretty weak (last year's was better), we need to improve against the press, cheerleaders still look like munchkins, roy should not be guarding scottie reynolds near the top of the three point line (ever though of switching out coverage), but in the end we won.

Really?
Now is the first time in 25 years you're ashmed to be a Hoya fan? Are you kidding me? Seriously, the lack of perspective here boggles my mind. Ugly win...yes. Poor performance in so many ways...yes. Lack of improvement with problems we've had before...yes. A lot of ugly things...yes.

But you're going to call out a 20-3, 10-2 Georgetown team's gritty win as the first time in 25 years you're ashamed to be a Hoya fan? Seriously? Perhaps you might want to rethink that? Even though it is an emotional post-game rant. Maybe. Your call.

The only thing I'm ashamed of is the mind-boggling lack of perspective on the board.

One of the things Summers does when he feeds Roy that needs addressing--he stands/stays on perimeter--once you feed and your man drops to double--cut to the rim to get a possible pass/offensive rebound--when you cut--the guard closest to your corner--should rotate to wing--to be in position for kickout/open shot. guys on opposite side slide and rotate back. They dropped 3 men once he put it on the deck--and everyone stayed outside. Wallace moved to get better position for his shot-but Summers lets himself play half a game of good ball and half of just standing on offensive end. Moving/driving on a few possessions isn't good enough-keep moving!

Dajuan did rebound well tonight--and it was needed.

PE JR's worst game in a longtime--outside of the 3pt shot-and that was big--he struggled.

Jon--much better in terms of shot selection and he did a nice job on Reynolds--who does the Nova flop/plow move. It must be something about wearing #1 at Nova--you get that (Kyle Lowry) and you get to do what you want on offense in terms of smacking into people and drawing calls.

Jessie--where was he on offensive end late? He should be on court--he makes plays/creates for others. His 2 turnovers with lead were brutal--but he had right idea on play to Macklin--just poor execution. He should be on court for a threat though.

Freeman needs to work on his conditioning. He looks heavy out there and he and Corey Stokes had similar frames in HS but Stokes looks more defined right now. Austin is too good to let his weight effect his play.

Macklin's defensive rebounding tonight was non existent and awful. I'm a fan of Vernon--but this was worst game he's played in Big East play I've seen.

Hibbert--what is with the long breaks he's taking? I can see if he's tired--but how do you get tired if you are ignored for 10 minutes when in the game? It's not as if he's working on offense--he's resting as guys ignore and hoist.

Coaches: Love you guys BUT

1. Watch a Junior High game and learn how to break/attack pressure

2. An entire half with 15 FGA's is beyond absurd. That is just painful and not acceptible at this time of the season. If kids ignore your instructions--sit them--which I think might have happened to Sapp--so ignore the above comment of where was he? I think I get that one now.

3. You have a 7'2 Center who is only guy on offensive end of court who has proved to be a player you can build around. He will score/draw fouls/set up teammates for good looks and instead we see a team ignore him. Why is this STILL HAPPENING? Unacceptible and needs to be corrected.

I was worried about losing a top 4 spot in BET-and after tonight--I'm relieved to have 10th conference win--as I'm thinking 12 will get you into NCAA's for certain. Seriously--I'm concerned about making the NCAA tournament with the way Hoyas have played lately and it's why tonight was a HUGE GAME. How they came out with no energy--I don't know. Crowd can't get into a game with no flow or offensive production or any offense being run.

I hope Hoyas figure it out--but I've not seen it and I'm not waiting for it to happen--I want to hear some answers/see some results soon--it's MID FEBRUARY this week--not the time to play a stretch where you've scored zero points in 30 minutes of games back to back.

It's a bad way to end a game, but after all of the painful losses to Nova I'll take it. And particularly after that horrible loss in 1999 when they scored 6 points in 2.6 seconds to beat us because we couldn't inbound the damn ball.

Just got home to watch the replay after nearly being crushed on the overcrowded Red Line. Um, not much of a foul, was it? But they seemed to call half a million touch fouls all night, and Rivers made a great, great defensive stop. I am not emotionally capable of feeling sorry for Villanova. We have a long way to go before we're even with them in terms of luck.
Does anyone know what is wrong with Sapp? How hurt is he?

What you didn't see at the end of the game was Jay Wright being restrained by FOUR coaches after coming back out of the tunnel to go at a student. I didn't see anything thrown but I don't know what provoked him. I saw it front and center but was anyone close by in the student section to know what pushed it over the edge?

The last call was questionable, but hey, that's karma.

Villanova made four field goals in the second half. Eight points off field goals. EIGHT!!! 'Nova made ONE FREAKING FG in the final 7:30!!! Georgetown's defense was suffocating, and the Hoyas ABSOLUTELY deserved to leave the building with a W. I see this the same as the Jeff Green phantom travel last year--it would never have been a big deal if the refs hadn't kept Vandy in the game in the final minutes.

And people spouting off about how this team is so overrated, maybe you should go back to last year's games against Villanova. Yeah, the ones in which that Final Four team struggled mightily against the press and played very sloppily. We just beat 'Nova at the Verizon Center for the first time; it was ugly, just as anyone with a brain knew it would be. Chill out.

This was the worst officiated game all season. The refs were bad from horn to horn but I think up until the last play it went Nova's way. Really iffy fouls on Reynolds, their best FT shooter, basically giving them two points, the inbounds one on Roy, several Nova MOVING picks with one where Drummond pushed Wallace 5 feet as he slid to pick, and a no call on Wallace's last 3 where he got nailed after the shot and ended up on the floor. Roy was getting absolutely harassed and they hardly called it.

The refs really kept Nova in the game with their ticky tack foul calls away from the basket giving them 2 FTs each time down instead of making them shoot against our D. For them to call all that crap and not the one at the end would be hypocritical at best. He DID foul him and they called it. Should they have? I dunno, but I think we would have beaten them in OT anyway.

Love the effort from Wallace who was in passing lanes and did a great job on Fisher who he guarded when he was in the game (as well as doing a good job on Reynolds in the second half, staying with him through screens). He did have 6 turnovers on the books with one particularly bad pass to Sapp on the wing, but 2 assists and 4 steals makes up for it I think, plus that huge 3 with two minutes left.

I really enjoyed this game, outside of all the FT shooting. Nova did a good job denying entry passes to the big man but I wish we could run a few more set plays to him. He changes the game.

Here is to beatin cuse at the dome.

For the first time in 25 years, I am ashamed to be a Hoya fan. Forgive me for not having read the previous posts on this thread.... but I just need to vent. We deserved to lose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The major problems with today's game are the following:

1. When we break the press... we don't make teams pay. The georgetown team of old would break the press and go to the hole hard.

2. We have no clue how to get the ball into Roy in the post. If our offense goes through Roy, and we can't get him the ball... we have a little problem. FREAKIN RIVERS NEVER EVEN LOOKS AT ROY....HE'S CONTENT JUST PASSING IT AROUND THE PERIMETER. GET A CLUE RIVERS!!!!!!

3. JT3 needs to coach with more emotion. When we are up on a team we've got to attack and close out the game. Instead, with both on Nova's big men in foul trouble and the Hoyas finally playing well... JT3 takes out Hibbert for 7 minutes!!! We had our foot on their throat and stepped off when sitting Hibbert.

4. We need someone who can penetrate. On our last full possession of the game (where Freeman shot a fall away 3 with the shot clock running down).... we never once got the ball inside 20 feet from the basket. We either need to pass it into the post or have someone go to the hole. We need movement.

We got bailed out tonight. Getting a foul called with .1 seconds left 70 feet from our basket is a joke... we all know it.

You'd think we'd have gotten the message by now, but if we needed another wake up call... here it is!

If you are ashamed because we won, I can take your season tickets.

Jessie was clutching his thigh. Looked like a hammie or quad issue to me.

I don't see how you can call all those phantom touch-fouls when we're playing defense and NOT make a similar call when they do it, even at the end of the game. Bad foul calls were what allowed Nova back in the game, and we deserved one as much as they did.

The Chimes were awesome on the national anthem. Only they and the older solo guy should sing it.
