 Mascot Uniform
« Thread Started on Jan 12, 2008, 9:16pm »

I'm sure someone spent a lot of time and effort to get/sew the new Jack the Bulldog costume. Unfortunately, is it ugly. What happened to the old one? Anyone have any info on this? Sorry if this has been covered before.

Whoever is inside the mascot needs to be replaced to. He/she had no energy. The mascot is ugly and depressed.

I think it's a she. Jack was doing some weird moves during one of the Cheerleaders things. Definitely made me uncomfortable.

Also, the new head looks like a cat. I kind of blame the new costume for the sloppy play today.

Well, the neck/collar combo is better, but agreed that the face isn't ideal.

I thought our LAST mascot costume was terrible, this one was even worse. Head looked like a deranged alley cat. Can't somebody copy the old costume from 8 or 9 years back and make it look like a bulldog again?

Don't worry. I will be at the Notre Dame and Syracuse games with the REAL dog mask!

Sorry, Jahidi, but you're no longer our only hope. There was at least one other person at Saturday's game wearing your dog mask...a girl sitting in section 104 had a Jahidi Hoya dog mask on.

This costume is actually an older one than the one they have been using. They use it occasionallly for whatever reason. Definitely horrible, nonetheless.

There is another Jahidi Hoya?!?

I am sure she is more like Jar Jar Binks. There can be no imposter! I will get to the bottom of this next weekend.

By the way, when you say "girl" do you mean that this person is a child? That would really throw me off my game.

In any event, I highly doubt that her dog mask has seen the battles that mine has. I have beer stains on that mask from each Big East Tournament over the past six years.

Excellent, Jahidi! I'm sure it smells like an old New North carpet on a Monday morning! Nothing better to disconcert opposing fans.

I'm not really sure I want to know the answer to this, but...Do you wash your mask?

I'm glad to see this thread, because that mascot uniform is terrible. At the Radford McDonough game, this mascot uniform came out in the first half, but by the second half the more familiar and vastly superior version was back.

In addition, am I the only one who was disgusted that Jack the Bulldog picked up cheerleader pom-poms and danced with them? PUT THOSE DOWN!

Jahidi...to clarify I should have said "young woman." She looked like she was a student or young alumni, at least from my vantage point 3 sections over.

If she was one of the students hanging out at the Green Turtle after the game, you might get a run for your money as far as drinking stamina. I have never seen so many tequila shots and car bombs being consumed in such a short time span. The level of drunkenness was most impressive.

Not sure who is inside which costume, but I know that at least one costume smells repulsive, which is probably not the best quality for a big furry animal that kids are supposed to approach and hug. And yes, the new bulldog head looks silly, but maybe we should also work on making the costume smell better too.

Could this be a backup costume that is only brought out if the original is not there / missing ?

I don't think so, because in the Radford game the mascot switched from the new head to the old head after halftime. I believe s/he has switched heads mid-game since then as well.

That's happened once before--it means that they had to put a cheerleader in the costume bc they didn't have anyone else. And that's what cheerleaders do-use pom poms. Doesn't make it right though

A couple of points.

a) When I put the mask on for the Rutgers game as I was actually impressed to see the level of detail on my mask. It even had whiskers! A closer look revelead that they in fact were not whiskers, they were actually stains. It looked like some spilled Jaeger from Cafe 31.

b) Are you sure this "young woman" was wearing a mask? I went to GU... sometimes it is not too clear.

c) Jokes aside, it will be my mission to find this fraud. Of course, this will all change if it turns out that she is hot. I will then make inappropriate jokes about puppies.

d) The 'Pom Pom' issue is disgraceful. Jack should not under any circumstances be raising pom poms. This needs to stop immediately.

e) I like the idea of changing the head during the game. The face could get meaner and meaner as the game progresses.
