Cue Chris Berman - "the Hoyas replace DaJuan "Fumbling Stumbling Bumbling" Summers with "Handy" Hollis Thompson.

I'm very high on hollis, but unless his ballhandling ability improved dramatically since his days at loyola, I don't see him as a top 5 ballhandler. in fact, the wrap on lil thompson was that he needed to tighten his handle. this all being said, he is a damn smart ballplayer and ususally always makes the right decision when the ball is in his hands. certainly no dajuan summers.
according to these rankings solomon hill is the next coming of lebron.

I'd just point out that these rankings are not completely regardless of position--they are limited to forwards. So he's not a one of the top 5 ballhandlers in '09, he's one of the top 5 ballhandlers in '09 that plays forward. If all the point guards and combo guards were in there, he wouldn't make it obviously (no one could expect him to).
Also interesting, they note Latavious Williams as one of the best defensive forwards and compare him to Tyrus Thomas. He really is exactly what we need, and credit the staff for doing such a good job finding and recruiting a guy who is really exactly what we need right now. All we can do now is hope that the academics work out and that he is not swayed by the sharks at Memphis.

And the staff seems to have three potential additions at Guard too, kids who might well be able to contribute as freshmen. Those are our two biggest needs for '09. To get that kind of activity this late in the game? Of course, the real test will be to see which, if any, of these kids actually end up at GU... and eligible to play.

Reading about former Hoya target Solomon Hill? wow! In the FORWARDS category, he is ranked #2 Ballhandler #5 Defender #2 Rebounder
How about Jordan Hamilton (Texas commit) #5 shooter #1 Rebounder #1 Ballhandler
6'7, 215, top ranked SF in country.

I was in LA over this past weekend and walked threw a large group of high school kids and when I say large I basically felt like a midget. At the end of the pack, I said to my friend oh my god thats hollis thompson... he is going to play next year for Georgetown. Hollis heard me and stopped me and was exactly what you would want a Hoya student athlete to be like.
An older guy came over and said yeah you know a bunch of these kids are going to Carolina and Wake. I looked at him and was like the only team I give a crap about is Georgetown. Big smile from Hollis and he promised that the team will be better next year. I think he was surprised that some random girl recognized him as he hasn't even started to play yet. If his personality is any indicator he will be yet another great Hoya student athlete. Is it basketball season yet?

How did Hollis perform in practice? Did he hold his own?

How did Hollis perform in practice? Did he hold his own? Doesn't matter. He was smiling. That's all that matters.

Awesome story, jj! And way to stick it to the Carolina/Wake crowd. It's all about Gtown!
Wanted to add a little story of my own. I spent some time talking with one of Hollis' old teammates at Loyola High school (where Hollis attended through his Junior year). He said Hollis was a real leader on their team and a truly genuinely good guy. He said that Hollis is definitely an elite level player and that he was the best shooter he had ever seen. This kid plays AAU and high school ball in L.A. and all over SoCal, so I take that as a great compliment and an actually meaningful statement. Can't wait to see him shoot the lights out at Verizon!
He also said that Hollis is loving Georgetown, which I'm relieved about considering it was a difficult year for us this last year. Hoya Saxa Hollis!
