“We have in our fundraising plans the New South renovation that we hope will be able to raise funds that will create significant student space in the old New South cafeteria,” DeGioia said. “ We are trying to address issues relating to recreation and athletic facilities, and those also would likely play an important role in our next campaign.” www.thehoya.com/news/degioia-discusses-fundraising-efforts/A sign of things to come? Or just a quote taken out of context?

Meh. There's been a lot said about athletic facilities over the years, but very little action. Wake me up when there's action.
I do agree that recreation facilities need to be part of the debate too. Georgetown's campus is not good even for intramurals.

It is good to hear some straight talk like that from the university. as for the space, if i had to guess there would be two options: 1) Turning the now empty area formerly home to the MSB Tech Center into a smaller work out space to alleviate the congestion at Yates that occurs every after noon. Here im thinking just cadio equipment and a few free weights, nothing serious. 2) Turning the two multipurpose rooms and the MSB Tech Center area (all of this used to be the cafeteria) and turning it into a temporary, but much upgraded, Varsity weight room for use only by Athletes. The weight facilities at Yates for Athletes are almost laughable for a Division one program. The weight staff should really be commended for the work they do with limited space and resources. Those are just my thoughts. It would be a step in the right direction to do either of those choices.

It would probably be great for everyone involved if freshmen had "their own" sort of space. Considering what the space is currently used for (which is nothing particularly valuable), it seems possible.
