I just heard from a friend that 80s night at the Tombs has been retired. A tragic day for all.

Almost a 10 year run that started when my roommate brought in his collection of really bad CDs on a slow night and turned into a phenomenon. To think all he got for it was some free drinks that he probably would have gotten anyway. Of course no current student was actually old enough to remember any of the 80s, but the memory lives on.

Probably because there's almost no undergrads left who were born in the 80's.
Sad, sad day.

Really why? that seems like a strange move. 80's night seems to be one of the more popular nights. I know the student DJ who does 80's night is a senior so will probably be gone, but that shouldn't stop them.

They need to introduce 90s nights. Wear your favorite ZCavs or Hammer pants, or your old flannels.
Of course, I was IN college for the second half of the 90s, so 90s nights at the Tombs basically means "night at the Tombs" to me.

A friend once observed that 80s music isn't really any better than any other kind of music, but it reminds us of a better time, a happy time, a time when Reagan was our president and America was great. 90s music can never produce the same kind of nostalgia because it only reminds us of the bleak depression that was the Clinton decade, the decade of flannel and DMB and mullets, alas!

Oh noes! There shall never be 80's songs played at the Tombs ever again!
If last night was really the last one they sure ended it appropriately: with Taylor Swift, Elton John and Frank Sinatra.

Of course, the Tombs didn't play any music in the 1980's. The only songs you heard there was at Chimes Night.

They were all the rage back in the 70's. Which means we should see them again in the 2010's, when the 90's will make a comeback, which was when the 70's made a comeback.

What could they be replacing it with? I would imagine the DJs for most nights are seniors -- I know country night is and that's being passed along to a '10 friend of mine. Maybe someone who wanted to DJ another genre (is 80s a genre?) came along and suggested this but I don't know why they wouldn't look for someone new to do 80s night considering the popularity.

Apparently the rationale was that the incoming freshman class was born in 1990-1991.
However, if they are going to eliminate 80s night based on that logic, shouldn't they have to wait 2 more years until the frosh class can actually enter tombs past 10?

Ugh. I'm going to go get drunk now.
Tombs, I still loved you when you took High Life of tap, so I guess I'll get over this too.

even then it seems like a bad rationale. I mean this years senior class was born in 87 most of the 80's music was made before we were born. We still love it because it gets played at college parties all the time. And i feel like that love got passed on to underclassmen as well.
