It's obviously all hearsay at this point, but other than that, there's nothing wrong with Thamel's reporting of it. It seemed strange that Marquette seemed to be doing so much of the heavy lifting and suddenly Georgetown was front and center (maybe Father Pilarz is on the conspiracy too!).
I don't really care much about the feelings of PC, SHU, St Johns, or DePaul at all. They're irrelavent. They're being gifted with a free $4 million/yr they've done nothing to earn. If they're angry it's because there's still a stigma to being on welfare.

"Not only are they doing a victory lap, they're not doing the work to earn it," said one school official. "At the time they want all the dealings to be clandestine; for them to go out front and take credit is beyond reprehensible."
Maybe I'm going crazy, but I could've sworn that the quote was initially attributed to a school official from a Catholic 7 school. Have they edited the article without telling anyone? Wouldn't surprise me. Also wouldn't surprise me if the quote is from some non-C7 school official, which doesn't mesh with Thamel's slant, but he doesn't want to be caught in an outright lie, so he just leaves it in with a strong implication that it is C7 without coming out and saying it.
Then again, given this guy's awesome job on Manti Te'o, we have no way of knowing how legit the quote is, period. Are you sure it is a school official? Are you sure it isn't, you know, nothing?

That is an utterly shameless, transparent hit piece, running over with anonymous sources and such illogic as 'Cuse and Pitt would have left regardless of the ESPN deal, so the BE should have signed the ESPN deal.
What?!

Is this all based on the pathetic, unsourced reporting of =BUM? There really ought to be a code of ethics that dictates if reporters hate a team, they don't report on them.

1. It was pretty obvious to me that that Georgetown piece was in response to Feinstein's "there's no one effectively running the C7!" piece.
2. I am trying to reconcile the idea the other members of the Catholic 7 both think Georgetown does nothing and thinks that Georgetown controls the league too much. What? Either we're involved or not.
3. There's a lot of anonymous sources for a freaking sports article. It would not surprise me to know that his "TV" source is someone not in the room, his C7 sources are people not in the room, etc.
4. Thamel is a joke professionally. He's been the hitman for college basketball corruption, but despite obviously knowing a lot of people in Syracuse's athletic department, did and broke nothing on Bernie Fine, on the failed drug tests, on Fab Melo's arrest and assault, etc. He should have excellent Cuse sources and refuses to go after them. And his piece on the ACC in MSG screams a plant by the Syracuse AD.
The dude abuses his position -- that's incredibly obvious. I don't expect people from Syracuse to have integrity, but I do expect people to call them on it.

Just another lame attempt at a hatchet job from an effin' Cuse guy. So, there is a lot of concern that Georgetown is wielding too much power, yet Georgetown is not really doing anything (they're not doing the work to earn it).
A lot of this sounds like sour grapes from the departing schools - got a much better deal from Fox than any of them imagined.
And Thamel must read Hoya Talk to come up with that ridiculous VCU-as-a-recruiting threat theme.
What a turd.

Yeah this is 'big time' sports reporting in a nutshell.
Anonymous sources as if we're talking about the Pentagon Papers? Check.
Entire premise of the article based on unofficial, off the record, anonymous "claims"? Check
Written by a guy who has had multiple opportunities HANDED to him to look into and break massive actual stories - that he flat out ignored? Check.
SU Grad? Check
Coming off a recent sloppy kiss column to the ACC? Check.

If the school official who called GU reprehensible for taking too much credit is from any school other than Marquette or Villanova, I just can't even...

I suppose on the up-side, this kind of Hoyas-are-evil reporting could raise our national profile back to where it was in the 1980s. Hated, but watched by all!

Wait, we are relevant and great enough to be hated again? To be attacked again?
AWESOME. Late the Cuse hack haters hate. We must be doing something right. Hmmm, new conference, more money, bball focused, not a slave to ESPN. Doing well on AND off the court. It is nice to be hated again.
Always worried when there is no hate. Hacks need to attack someone--we are again good enough for them to focus on us. Celebrate! Sincerely.
